CLT Observer Poll
Saw this today. The major omission is Jerry Moore. I think the goal for ESPN would be to have someone with national recognition. Just pray that EC is not it.

Re: CLT Observer Poll
The only two of those who have a case are Armanti and Luke Combs, and I understand Combs is otherwise occupied with a concert date in Wisconsin that day. I had to Google Charlotte Flair and I have zero idea what Steph Curry's connection with App would be.
Other than Armanti, more likely (imo) picks are Daniel Jeremiah or Coach Moore.

Agree, I added the link so you could see the justification for each and vote if inclined. Curry inclusion is a reach for sure.
I voted to see the results and AE is leading followed by Luke.

Re: CLT Observer Poll
Here's their rationale for Steph:
Hear that, folks? All that talk of Boone being too small a market and too isolated for all those years. But when ESPN comes calling, all of a sudden it's "home state pride." I'll take the press, but good grief.STEPHEN CURRY: Although Curry is known for basketball and didn’t attend App State, the NBA star who grew up in Charlotte is nothing if not vocal about his home state pride. He played football as a kid, his father, former Hornets star Dell Curry, told USA Basketball.

I think it's Luke or Daniel Jeremiah. While Luke does have a concert in Green Bay both Friday and Saturday, he also has a private jet and ESPN has deals with private charters.
I do know AE will be in Boone this weekend too, so could be him. But, he was already planning on being up there for the new Iconic Heroes launch using his name.

Re: CLT Observer Poll
I remember DJ Thompson and company beating Steph and Davidson in Belk in 2006-07.
Davidson was App's biggest SoCon basketball rival at the time. I hope Steph comes home and plays for the Hornets, but hell no to him being gameday guest picker.

Charlotte Flair is quite a bit bigger deal then a lot of you might think. It's not impossible for it to be her. She's also out of action for WWE right now so she's likely available.appchicago wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 9:48 amThe only two of those who have a case are Armanti and Luke Combs, and I understand Combs is otherwise occupied with a concert date in Wisconsin that day. Re: CLT Observer Poll
Isn’t WWE on Fox now? If so, that would probably rule her out. I’d think ABC might not want to promote a rival network.DomCrosetto wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 10:41 amCharlotte Flair is quite a bit bigger deal then a lot of you might think. I initially thought she might be an outside option, though.

Re: CLT Observer Poll
For those who don't know, Ashley Fliehr (Charlotte Flair) played volleyball at App for 2 or 3 seasons, then transferred to NC State (not to play VB) to follow a boyfriend, a move she later said she regretted. Ric would attend a lot of her volleyball matches, even though he was an active wrestler at the time.
After the death of her little brother (maybe step-brother) Reid due to his hard drug addictions, she joined WWE partially in memory of him. Now she's a multi-time WWE women's champion, has main evented Wrestlemania and has been one of the most featured women's wrestlers there.

Charles Frazier, author of Cold Mountain and other best sellers. He is from Western NC and got his Masters Degree from Appalachian, and I think he lives in Asheville now. But some would have a problem with his undergraduate degree!

Slightly off topic, but as far as I know our own Donald Sims still holds the single game scoring record in Belk arena…hard to believe Steph never surpassed it, although I think he matched it in road games a few times (44 points). Here’s the Watauga democrat article from Jan 2010.

Re: CLT Observer Poll
Friday Night Smackdown is yes. Monday Night Raw is on the USA Network and under the NBC Universal umbrella. They also have a deal with the streaming version of NBC - Peacock. I know ESPN let's people know what networks are showing games and even have some outsiders appear on program (albeit rare). So it's not unheard but I'd agree that it may be unlikely to be her. Would take it to another level if she brought dear old dad with her though! Plus, Pat McAfee still has the wrestling connection...BeauFoster wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 10:44 amIsn’t WWE on Fox now? Not having Luke combs would be a huge missed PR opportunity in my opinion. While we all love Armanti, he’s not a known commodity.

Absolutely agree. Luke is now a mega star in the country music world and an avid App fan...just watch his music videos. He'd be the best get no question.

I remember her playing at App and I actually saw her dad one time eating on campus with her during a football weekend. I don't know if Ric went to the game but I think they used video of him doing the "Wooo" before so he might have been in KBS too.T-Dog wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 10:50 amFor those who don't know, Ashley Fliehr (Charlotte Flair) played volleyball at App for 2 or 3 seasons, then transferred to NC State (not to play VB) to follow a boyfriend, a move she later said she regretted. She is a big deal in the wrestling world and is really good. She has been married multiple times and is married to a wrestler now. I wonder if she has been back to Boone since she became a wrestler?

Re: CLT Observer Poll
The entire Charlotte community is completely out of touch. What an awful poll from an awful paper.
