CBS Sports Power Ranking

Unread post by appstate5 » Mon Sep 12, 2022 2:48 pm

Fast backward to this week's Power Rankings. App State debuts at No. 18 after winning at Texas A&M 17-14. At this time, the Mountaineers (1-1) are the top-ranked Group of Five team, meaning they would be in line for a New Year's Six bowl. But if the expanded playoff debuts as soon as 2024, that No. 17 ranking would put App State in contention for a playoff berth.

Yep. If we stay the top rated G5 (by the committee), and win the conference (especially with the recent Sun Belt successes), we'd be the leading choice for the NY6. If the playoffs are enacted as currently agreed to, we'd be in the playoffs. We'd just have to be higher ranked (by the committee) than the other 4 G5 champions.
This has got to be a huge recruiting incentive...but I don't see many people talking about it.

Not only recruits but I think gives transfers really something to think about as well. You can come to a "lower level" and still compete on a national stage.

Carolina at 23:
America's most entertaining team has scored 144 points and won by two and seven points against FBS competition. They also suddenly have one of the nation's best wins -- against App State. With Notre Dame and Virginia Tech next at home, the Tar Heels could be 5-0 headed to Miami on Oct. 8.
