If Corey Lynch had run the kick back...

Corey Lynch had been on the field nearly the entire game vs Michigan. He switches positions with another FG blocker, breaks through, puts a hand on the ball, scoops it up and takes off down the field. He was run down on the 6 and tackled from behind. Ballgame 34-32.
The outcome wouldn't have changed, but would a 40-32 final score enhance, degrade, or have no effect on your enjoyment of that game? Would it mean more to you if he'd been able to run the block back for a touchdown or the same?

Enhanced but not by much

I'm indifferent. He could have fallen on the ball to keep it safer. By trying to run it back he risked getting the ball stripped and run back the other way for a Michigan touchdown and win. I was holding my breath the whole time he was running for that reason.
All that aside, I think the score it ended with kept the story of how suspenseful the game really was. Getting 40 might have diminished that feeling a bit.

I'm good with the final score and how the game ended.
Literally, drama until the clock hit all zeros.
I was there. It was gut wrenching.

I've felt this way too, that 34-32 really cements the suspense but didn't think to articulate it that way. Thank you.

I keep waiting for the flag on that play to give the ball back to Michigan to kick it again.

Remember, Brian Quick dropped a TD pass that hit him directly in the numbers. The final could’ve been 44-32, if you really wanted to get picky. Could that have possibly gotten us higher in the Final AP voting?

Possibly. What if Quick hadn’t dropped a gift TD and we settle for a FG? What if Rauch doesn’t hit one off the upright? That’s a potential 7 points that would have changed the ending. The block is what made it epic.

"The good guys won is all that matters." That's what the Penn State fans say.

That block changed college football. It has taken Michigan 14 years to recover from that block. Corey Lynch may have gotten tackled, but Appalachian State is still running...

This is my favorite reaction video from that day.

I would love to hear the Michigan radio call.

I wouldn't change a thing...the game was perfect and the last 4 to 5 minutes of that game was a rollercoaster of emotions that had a great ending. I agree with the above that the block was the perfect ending for such a hard fought close game.

The score would not have changed the enjoyment. However, Lynch running away from the Michigan team into the end zone would have just solidified the Speed vs. Size theme. I'm not sure if the radio guys could have made it another 10 yards.....

They loved us in Penn State from that day right up until a nearly fateful day in 2018.

Coach Jerry Moore in the locker room after the game, "what you did here today will be a part of football history." And so it shall be!

I like the score as is. If we scored, it would have looked like a freak play got us the win when that was not the case.

I would have liked for him to have scored a TD; just an exclamation point...but really, everything about this is so perfect, doesn't matter. Love that we still get the post win glow discussing this every year on this day. I like how it's been made into #3432day. This on top of excitement for this weekend is feeling really good lol

I could only listen to the game over our computer and my wife had a crowd of ladies over for some get together. It was agonizing toward the end KNOWING we were gonna lose. Then the block. After all this time winning by 2 or 20 meant the same thing. I'm sure zero Michigan fans say "well you guys barely won"
