If the players did not think it was illegal to bet on NFL games....if that is what they did....that is pretty damn lacking of common sense....sorry...cannot make an excuse for that....they get lectured throughout college as well as during NFL orientation sessions....and I am sure at team facilities..

They definitely knew it was against the rules. It was made clear to them when they entered the NFL.
