I’m not sold on McCall being as good as people think. Especially after seeing Likely play last night for Baltimore. I’m interested to see how he looks without Likely and Heighlie

McCall set the FBS passing efficiency record last year with 73% completion rate and a TD/Int ratio of 9/1.
I think he and Brice are judged fairly in these rankings.

Re: 10 best G5 quarterbacks
73% is nice. I do not follow their offense as I do not watch their games unless playing App. St. with the exception of covid year as less competition with number of games. What a remember is a more shorter passing game and their WRs and backs getting yards after the catch. This did open it up for some longer pass plays to keep teams honest so to speak. With that said, CCU has won a bunch of games the last couple of years. They are doing something right....I hope we make them do it all wrong in November.
The 2020 game still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. A game that should have been won.

Re: 10 best G5 quarterbacks
You are 100% correct. He had something like 7 TDS of more than 50 yards. All but one was a pass of no more than 10-15 yards. The rest of the work was done by the WRs.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 1:23 pm73% is nice. Re: 10 best G5 quarterbacks
Couldn't one say the same about Brice? He inherited a complete starting lineup at WR. In two seasons McCall has thrown for 53 TDs and 6 INTs. In one season Brice has twice as many INTs as McCall does in two. No complaints about Brice, he's top notch and may, in fact, have a better season than McCall but based on past performance its hard to argue that he isn't the best in the Belt.

Re: 10 best G5 quarterbacks
I think it has more to do with the lineman in front of him than the WRs. If he has an average amount of time he is deadly. App beat CCU last year because of our dline in the 4th hurrying him.
I don't like CCU's coach or his antics, but he is the best X and O offensive mind in the SBC right now and he's got a heck of a weapon in McCall.

Re: 10 best G5 quarterbacks
You most certainly could make the same speculation about Brice if he were rated that high. Don’t misunderstand, my comment wasn’t to throw shade or dismiss past performance. You don’t throw for 73% without having some skill. Just wondering out loud if those numbers transfer over to this year with a new OL, new WRs, and a new surgically repaired shoulder.hapapp wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 2:39 pmCouldn't one say the same about Brice? Re: 10 best G5 quarterbacks
As much as I would like to say he is over hyped, I have to say, in the App game and a few others I have seen him play, he seems to make good decisions, make plays, delivers accurate passes even when under pressure and duress, and avoid mistakes. I don't like that he plays for Coastal but if I am fair, he is very good.

A new surgically repaired shoulder that team doctors are saying he shouldn't even be practicing right now but Chadwell is still requiring him to -- albeit on a pitch count.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 2:48 pmYou most certainly could make the same speculation about Brice if he were rated that high. Chadwell is single handily ruining this kids career. Allowed him to play through a concussion last year even when trainers said no until further testing was done. Further testing after the game confirmed he did in fact have a concussion. You don't get nailed in the head, puke twice, have trainers holding your helmet hostage, and go back in to the game without further testing.
Making him practice through a significant shoulder surgery when team doctors are saying it's a bad idea.
It's not a coincidence Coastal football has a new head athletic trainer and team doctor this year.

I'm sorry but he's a pretty damn good QB. You can tear apart most anyone's stats. He's good

No one is disputing that he is talented. Just questioning how much of those stats can be attributed to his supporting cast last year. They are gone this year so we will see.

Re: 10 best G5 quarterbacks
All the QBs now throw the short safe stuff. That’s why they can throw it 40-50 times a game. No more Darryl Lamonicas where a short pass was still 20 yards down field.
Many teams, if given a 3 yd play, would still throw it for the 3 yards instead of ramming it up the middle. One of the negatives of the pass-happy era is the games last 4 hours.

Re: 10 best G5 quarterbacks
You are talking about Javon Heiligh I assume?
Even more important than losing those two is that McCall had surgery on his throwing shoulder for a torn rotator cuff so I wonder how his arm will look with that? I would have thought Tune or Haener might have been ranked above him. It will be interesting to see the new names. I doubt they have another player the caliber of Likely at TE but they have recruited some good ones the last 2-3 years so it will be interesting to see how good the new WRs are for them just like with us. Have to keep in mind that Brice lost his top 4 WRs from last year as well so both of them are breaking in new targets.
