Now this is quality journalism and a respite from all the parking dialogue. Bring on the season and “Let’s Give ‘em Hell!”

I was just thinking of sharing that article. Thanks

So we just need to run the table and put the pressure on the media and committee.

There’s a chance. That’s all you can ask for. Time to strap on our big boy britches and deliver on the field.

It's great for the school and the football program to be in these random media pieces.

It’s interesting how often people’s definition of “quality journalism” and “articles that tell me what I already believe and want to hear” are one in the same.

(Just messing with you Chad)

If for no other reason this article/listing just reinforces how consistent we have been. No matter what level you play at or even your competition it's really impressive and difficult to win 9-10 games a year. It's apples to oranges as far as true rankings because we would like to think if App jumped to a P5 conference recruiting and money would be relative. There are a whole bunch of programs that would kill to be where we are.

Don't think anybody is claiming that App SHOULD be in the playoffs, but it is great to see our school being discussed in this company. The Belt in general does well with Louisiana and Marshall also included in the top 10. Obviously, the "who" you beat is a huge factor, which is why this article says right off the bat the #25 (Southern Cal) is the most likely to actually make the playoffs from the list.

Proud to be a MOUNTAINEER!

What these two articles prove is that our consistency since moving up to FBS has earned us enough credibility to be in the discussion.

The next prerequisite is we had to have a strong enough SOS. We have that this year with A&M and UNC along with an improving SBC Schedule.

Now the table is set and the final piece is we have to deliver. Remember Cinci had to run the table last year to make it in.

This is what we and every player coming to App has wanted and waited for, a chance to show the nation we are a serious force at the highest level of college football.

All good. I’m just happy to find any stories on the Mountaineers. With Ethan off the beat it’s just plain sad one of the best teams in the country has so little coverage. I was hoping The Athletic would pick Ethan up. I know a lot of folks on here who would sign up for that.

This is why you need automatic qualifiers for the College Football Playoffs for every conference, because strength of schedule is so subjective, anything less is an invitational tournament at best.

If your talking P5 automatic qualifyers. No one, with a sane mind, can argue that any G5 schedule, including conference, has the strength of P5. G5 do not play that level of competition each week as P5.

That is the point, you cannot beat anyone you cannot play.

On paper App should not have played Michigan, however, they did and App won.

That is why you need to have automatic qualifiers for all FBS conferences to be fair. All levels of college sports have a path to a championship except FBS. That should change to be fair, presently, the CFP is nothing but an invitational tournament.

I have gone back and forth with this deal and usually I've been against an automatic qualifier aspect since you could have a team even in a P5 go like 9-3 in the regular season, win their championship game and then advance but not really be deserving. If you don't have an automatic qualifier an App could run the table, get ranked around 10th and still get shafted.

My thoughts are if they want to avoid playing way too many games just eliminate the CCG's. If leagues are eliminating divisions and someone goes unbeaten and is the clear best team why have to play another game possibly against the team they already beat? Just go 16 teams with the automatic qualifiers and some wildcards. Play that first round on what was usually conference championship weekend. The 8 winners play in 4 big bowl/playoff games. Those losers could still go to a bowl game.

This isn't about parking either. Citadel game is sold out. This season is looking real good early on for attendance...

"Bottom Line: Could Appalachian State really make the jump from the FCS to the big-time world of the FBS in 2014? Uh, yeah."

"App State has carved out a nice little spot as a dangerous Group of 5 program. The Mountaineers' win over Michigan in 2007 will live forever, and they've been a perennial power in a growing Sun Belt since they became an FBS program."

These are the best quotes from the two articles. It is so nice to have an identity that other people can identify. No other school has been able to capitalize on an event the way that Appalachian has with the win over Michigan. One day people may ask, "Tell me why Appalachian's win over Michigan was such a big deal?"

I questioned the move, because I like the idea of a playoff. App did not move to FBS until they got the semblance of a playoff.

When they get the automatic qualifiers for each FBS conference then App will be a contender, if not champion. A 16 team playoff with automatic bids will level the playing field for all the programs and conferences. The difference between the have and have nots of FCS is not as great as the have and have nots of FBS. Automatic bids for every conference will allow everyone to make money not just a few.
