Are we running a spread offense this year? I think we are going to be slinging it around the field again. I thought Clark would work us back to a run tight end heavy set. I am hearing a spread offense.
Same offense with a few wrinkles.
I hope you are right, because our better conference opponents know our tendencies and have begun to shut us down, when they shouldn't. Could be our previous 2 head coaches were able to stay ahead of the game offensively? Personnel was sure there last year.
That's been more of a lack of versatility in the RB room. The only RBs we have (outside of freshmen that I haven't seen) that can do everything is Noel and Chop. Chop has been hurt.

The problem has been when anyone that has been active often is in the game (outside of Noel and even with Noel to an extent), we are one dimensional and teams know that.

If what I'm hearing about Peoples with his work on pass block and catching is true, I don't foresee any defense being able to stop us.

Maybe it is just wishful thinking on my part but I am guardedly optimistic about the offense this year despite the loss of huge WR talent. I think we have a lot of young / unseen talent in the current group and we will be fine. I am a fan and supporter of Brice, but I think the offensive chemistry was thrown off last year with the change to a big pro-style QB. Our OL has always (in recent years) had the benefit of a mobile QB who could evade a rush when needed and shift gears to become a serious running threat. Chase seemed to figure some things out as the season progressed and I like what I have heard from him in interviews about working on his running game. We don't need him to be AE...or ZT....or even TL. He is actually pretty effective at picking up a few yards to move the chains and that's basically what we need. If the playbook is more open, defenses will have to be more honest. There is no doubt that we had the talent last year, but it just seems we lacked chemistry. 2022 will hopefully show a return of that chemistry. I know. I'm a homer. Always will be.

I'm hoping Barbay is the OC that will open up the playbook and not be quite as conservative as our previous OCs. #AlwaysAttack!

I actually thought Chase was really good last year. Would have liked to have lower interceptions.. however when you pass down field..higher risk reward ratio. We scored 38 in the bowl game...chase does not play defense. And LaLa championship game, it was a defensive battle on both sides of the ball. The real "bad" game was LaLa regular season game. Entire team stayed in Boone for that one it seems. Personally, I do not want to see chase becoming much more of a running QB as he is not that elusive and subject to more hits....and we do not have a great back up depth
I do believe there are other things we could do...use TEs more.... involve RBs in passing game...whether flair outs or a traditional screen pass... personally feel these types of options would have helped in second LaLa game to keep defense guessing...

Philjaw, Burger, and Johnson are only true freshman of this list to make 2 deep for UNC. Markus Clark, not on the list made 2 deep.

We appear to have a bad ass offensive line this year. As I was scanning through our depth chart did I interpret correctly that all 5 guys could potentially return again next year? With the Covid year these 5th year redshirt juniors get confusing. If that is true and they get the band back together that would be huge for a new QB. We pretty much bring back the entire receiving room and the backs if none leave for an NFL shot. That could be scary.

Could, but it isn’t likely.

Nothing would be better for a young inexperienced QB than to have a proven OL, RB's and WR's to depend on.

I'm pretty sure Hodges is going to go to the NFL. He is getting 6-7 and high PFA grades from scouts who have come on campus for the most part. Even without Hodges, the OL should be really good next year as well. Coach Wade is getting a lot more out of these guys and we are possibly seeing their full potential. He is an upgrade over the last couple seasons for sure. Hopefully he stays another year because even without Hodges the OL will be stout in 2023. That will be important with the likelihood that a redshirt freshman will be our starter.

Stroman is biggest contributor out of freshman thus far in my opinion. He’s made some good catches and was responsible for the tip on the Hail Mary to win the game against Troy.

His drop of that 3rd down pass set up the Hail Mary. Had he caught it, we are likely setting up for a 50 yard FG.

Are you saying he had great intuition to drop the ball on purpose?

That assumes he goes down immediately as we had no TOs left. I think if he catches that ball the game might be over.
