Re: App Pro Day
1not much love for us on the "next best available" list. Jackson is up to #30, but we don't have another player listed at all.
I expect Jackson to go today but who knows. This has been a bit of a funky draft. Easy example, all those NFL teams that need a QB and Howell is still on the board in the 4th round.

Re: App Pro Day
Gonna sound homer but the Panthers just took a bigger ILB who allowed a 75% completion % and over pursues on tackles. Mr. Everything Jackson still available. At some point he’s better off as a FA. The draft from the 4th down is a strange crapshoot

Re: App Pro Day
I don't think he is falling at all. Most in the know felt he would go 4th or 5th round and we just started the 5th round.appdaze wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 11:46 am1not much love for us on the "next best available" list. Jackson is up to #30, but we don't have another player listed at all.

Re: App Pro Day
I would hold off until we get down below pick 200 before that argument. We are currently in the 5th round and Jackson would be much better off going now. I don't see any way he gets out of the 6th round and felt all along the 5th round is sweet spot.

Re: App Pro Day
I think we have to face the fact that while our guys "Give Their All" and we love them for that, they just aren't seen as NFL draft prospects - Look at all the guys from G5, SBC, FCS and even DII that have already been chosen into the 5th round and no App guys - :>(

Re: App Pro Day
Actually, 25-30 years ago we produced more quality NFL players than we do now. We might send more to camps now but few stick or make significant contributions.WVAPPeer wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 1:17 pmI think we have to face the fact that while our guys "Give Their All" and we love them for that, they just aren't seen as NFL draft prospects - Look at all the guys from G5, SBC, FCS and even DII that have already been chosen into the 5th round and no App guys - :>(

Re: App Pro Day
Saints just took D'Marco Jackson at 161 overall in the 5th round. That is still in the range he was expected to go. Congrats to Jackson! We should see several guys sign a contract or get a tryout later today.

Re: App Pro Day
Unfortunately he was selected at a point where they were in break and are simply reviewing the draft. No discussion about him.

Re: App Pro Day
I agree with us needing to be realistic but I really have a hard time believing that a 5’10” 170 lb receiver from Samford is better than the guys we have available. How many big time catches did he make against P5 defenses?

Re: App Pro Day
From CBS Sports -
161. Saints: D'Marco Jackson, LB, Appalachian State
Grade: A-
Commander at the second level of a defense. Knows his assignments and gets there in a hurry thanks to burst/short-area quickness. Shorter, smaller stature LB who plays bigger. Mostly a QB spy/blitzer in passing situations but did make some plays in coverage. Very smart. Love this pick for him to learn behind DeMario Davis.

Watch the nearly 2 minute clip App State Football put out on social media. It’s narrated by Shemar Jean-Charles. Will almost bring a tear to your eye. Congrats D’Marco!!

Re: App Pro Day
You should watch him play. He is fun to watch and he actually has good film against a P5. Caught 10 passes for 124 yards and a TD against Florida. He went earlier than I thought but I won't trash talk that pick. He was good.

Re: App Pro Day
Watch our guys closely and pay attention to off the field. We just had one draftable player this year. It happens. I really think 2023 will be a more fruitful draft for us though.
