Re: Andre Goodman
Whoever wins that QB2 battle, we need to see them on the field more this year than we saw Huesman last year. Hopefully we have some games in hand early in 4th quarter and QB2 gets some playing time.

Re: Andre Goodman
What’s your rationale? Tabscott has a year’s head start in the system and in the weight room, but we don’t know where Burger is in his game yet to know if he is ready. From what I have gleaned through conversations with others is that Tabscott’s mental approach is good in that the game doesn’t seem to be too fast for him. If Burger can slow the game down, he has the better arm now. That’s not to say that Tabscott hasn’t benefitted from the weight room. We shall see.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 9:47 amI’d put money on it. That Tabscott is still here and 2 other QBs leaving, sounds like he is the clear #2 and heir to take Brice’s place (unless we get a FA).

I like Tabscott as QB2. Whoever it is I hope we give them more snaps in game than in the past. We have little trouble rotating other positions.

Re: Andre Goodman
It would be for sure, but it would be a change for most all D1 programs these days. Unless it's a dual QB situation, seem teams just don't pull the starter other than blowout games. I get it, but it does seem that if you have a 3 TD lead in the 4th, there is no harm in letting QB2 have a series or two before absolute garbage time.

Re: Andre Goodman
Don't discount going to the portal for another QB. Doesn't mean he bypasses those already here, but having only 3 scholarship QBs is pretty thin. I notice we have taken a couple of PWO QBs in the last couple of days as well.

Re: Andre Goodman
It’s only $25, so I’m not worried about losing the bet. However, we had 4 QBs, the one starting has one more year left. 2 left the program. My thought is that they didn’t think they’d pass Tabscott on depth chart to take starting role after next year.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 10:07 amWhat’s your rationale? Tabscott stayed. Don’t think he’d stay if he was 3rd man out.

Re: Andre Goodman
That’s fair. To be honest, Shuler was QB2 for Arkansas St. when Huesman was at his sister’s wedding.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Wed Feb 02, 2022 12:00 pmIt’s only $25, so I’m not worried about losing the bet. Re: Andre Goodman
Could be holding a spot for him in case he can’t find a landing spot. Or they just haven’t gotten around to removing him.

Re: Andre Goodman
If you are number 4 or lower on QB depth after being here a year or more, it is probably for a reason. I would like to have a stable at the position but reality is one guy can play, unless we see something extraordinary, none are going to displace Chase as starter, and probably for good reason, they are not as good. So they wait their turn and PROVE in practices, spring and fall camps that they deserve to be the next guy up. We want the system to force them to compete in order to get the most out of them. If they are good enough they play, otherwise they will sit the bench or go to portal. Not being insensitive but that is how we want the program to work to get the best players on the field.

Or before the end of camp. Sounds like a mind change in the original direction may have been had now.

Re: Andre Goodman
It’s too bad that schools don’t have either a freshman (or a JV) team. Every year the QB debate rages and we always have that other guy or guys who everyone wants to get meaningful snaps. Other than the Coastal game several years ago when is the last time the presumed number 2 played at all other than a few minutes of garbage time mostly handing the ball off? If we had either the freshman or JV (so to speak) team that could play even 5 or 6 games a year it would be invaluable to App and every other school that joined. This would probably have to involve either bus ride games only or arranging for the upcoming opponent to play their team on a Friday night or prior to the main game.
This might be an impossible venture but virtually nobody’s backup QB’s see any real action during the season. I would advocate that guys who play this extra ball could still redshirt but maybe see limited varsity action to keep the shirt. I’m sure freshmen who otherwise only practice or run scout teams would love this.

Re: Andre Goodman
Your point is taken. His pending departure or possible change to heart has nothing to do with playing time or lack there of. Suffice it to say that it is a personal decision and any of you would have the same thought process of it was something that affected you personally or to someone close to you.

Re: Andre Goodman
There wouldn’t be a depth chart after day one of camp. MAF is the new overarching Yosef Club. It stands for Mountaineer Athletic Fund.

So the order after Brice has not been settled, I’ll hold off on that check.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 3:12 pmThere wouldn’t be a depth chart after day one of camp. MAF is the new overarching Yosef Club. It stands for Mountaineer Athletic Fund.
