Beat UNC-CH or win the Conference title?
Which would you like to do most if we didn't do both? Beat the Heels or win the conference title.

I feel like beating UNC in Boone at KBS in front of likely the largest crowd would do much more for regional recruiting than beating UL possibly in Louisiana to win the Sun Belt. Obviously would love to have both happen, but if I had to pick I'd have to go with beat UNC.

I understand that it's officially the "off" season, but I hate these topics.

How exactly does it help with recruiting? If you mean that kids would choose us over them, then I don’t see how it makes a difference. We just lost one to SC who we recently beat. Fans want the bragging rights, kids want the rings./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 11:18 amI feel like beating UNC in Boone at KBS in front of likely the largest crowd would do much more for regional recruiting than beating UL possibly in Louisiana to win the Sun Belt. I could see how recruiting could be helped. The kid in Fla or Ga. Is more aware of FSU, Miami, Fla and Cheat. They are much more nationally visible than , La or anyone else in the Sunbelt. Bragging rights aside I personally would relish beating Cheat more. HOWEVER… the answer is both.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 11:55 amHow exactly does it help with recruiting? Not to counterpoint all comments, but this is how I look at it. If we want to be in the NY6 conversation, then beating a P5 helps. To get into the NY6, we have to be conference champs.

Re: Beat UNC-CH or win the Conference title?
More people pay attention to college football earlier in the year than they do when there are only a handful of games in December. Exposure for the program comes from these games, not conference title games. I mean each recruit thinks differently, but I'm sure the fact of even playing against UNC or in College Station in itself is appealing. Winning those games and gaining more attention I feel would be more appealing. Still would rather have both, but abiding by the options I just feel UNC would be better.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 11:55 amHow exactly does it help with recruiting? That’s fair. I understand your point, I don’t believed that it creates the catalyst to better recruiting./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 1:08 pmMore people pay attention to college football earlier in the year than they do when there are only a handful of games in December. Re: Beat UNC-CH or win the Conference title?
Lose a close one to UNC then we happen to run the table and we're still in NY6 territory. If our only loss is in the CCG then we're probably packing our bags to Myrtle Beach etc...
because the NY6 is out. So win the conference and see what happens.
All this provided it's a one loss season but I'm saying all this just in case that's the scenario. Which is possible.

Re: Beat UNC-CH or win the Conference title?
While the correct answer is "both" we're forgetting Coach Clark's mantra which I agree with whole-heartedly: "Come to Appalachian State, get a world-class education and play for championships." Beating uncheat while desirable it not playing for a championship; it would merely be making me extremely happy. Rings make me much happier.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

King of the Neighborhood or King of the Sun Belt. I think I'd like the Neighborhood title. I understand it's better for the team to get the Belt though.

You're probably right. I am tying name recognition with recruiting, which isn't always equalAppSt94 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 1:22 pmThat’s fair. Re: Beat UNC-CH or win the Conference title?
Let's face it.. until the SBC reworks its bowl structure we aren't going anywhere big post season. 13-1, SBC champs, beat UNC and SC and still had a mediocre opponent in a low level bowl game. I always preached conference championships because in high school that assured the playoffs and during the great SoCon years it did the same. I am not undermining the conf championship but if things per playoffs and bowls stay the same then next year I say beat the Holes and send Mack back to chapel hill whining about the media rating his team too highly because we all know they will be over ranked again

Well, I don’t have specific names and I am only referencing a reputable source, but we have had a good number of players in the portal that have inquired about joining our program. So I would say that what you are wanting already exists to a certain point./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 3:07 pmYou're probably right. But unfortunately, the issue with our current recruiting process is that there are schools out there that have our list of commits and offers and look for poaching opportunities within said list. Our reputation inside the recruiting circles is pretty much what I believe you are asking for. From P5s, peer institutions and high school coaches.

What undeserving preseason ranking will UNC carry? It sure would be nice to have a top 10 win on our resume.
