Re: Wake Forest Needs a Gator Bowl Opponent
“If a bowl is not played, teams do not receive the payout. Gator Bowl payout is $5.3 [million],” Dellenger adds. “There are no possibilities of a replacement like last year, [Bowl Season executive director] Nick Carparelli has told @SINow. This is why the Gator likely needs another bowl team to dropout.”

5.3 mill would be a big financial boost, even if we have to give a share to the conference.

I think the bigger challenge is getting all the players back on campus... Most are at home for the break.

They’re also looking at Marshall and Illinois and Rutgers …although crowd doesn’t matter, rivalry and proximity and rabid fan base puts us in front imho.
Take my earlier tweet and retweet it…shit why not…at least it’ll get us some money and PR. I’m gassing up the rv right now and wife is calling divorce attorney…I could win both ways!!!!

Most I think would jump at this especially the Super Seniors.

WKU runs and Air Raid and App rarely leaves base defense. That's much better against an opponent who runs a scheme like Wake Forest rather than WKU.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 5:25 pmWe’d be down a significant number of core players who have declared for the draft. Not sure how well this would work out for us. WFU offense is perhaps more legit than WKU.

So you're the dude I remember seeing when I was 15 on the East side of the stadium and at the National Championship Game in 06 and 07.PBR1893-BEER-HAT-GUY wrote: ↑Wed Dec 22, 2021 6:40 pmThey’re also looking at Marshall and Illinois and Rutgers …although crowd doesn’t matter, rivalry and proximity and rabid fan base puts us in front imho.

Always wondered who that person was and how they made their hat.

Looks like they chose Rutgers. It was nice to be a possibility though. 5-7 record, but supposedly best APR is what gets them the opportunity.

Re: Wake Forest Needs a Gator Bowl Opponent
I don’t think this was ever a chance and I am going to bring up another issue. Many Super Seniors have already signed with agents and are starting training already. Would they not need a waiver to play? How many would even come back? I doubt Jackson would play as well.
I also don’t see logistics in our favor since most of the guys are home. I also doubt Gator Bowl would seriously consider a G5 team for this when they can get a P5 anyway.

Re: Wake Forest Needs a Gator Bowl Opponent
Everything you mention is common issue for all teams whether previously played in a bowl game and if not originally bowl eligible.
They all have super seniors. Some have probably declared for NFL and some have hired agents.

Re: Wake Forest Needs a Gator Bowl Opponent
I believe that the Rutgers athletic department is under severe financial problems so they could just be looking to get the paycheck...and are willing to take a shellacking in a big time bowl to get it...

Re: Wake Forest Needs a Gator Bowl Opponent
It was an option. They reached out to Gillin and company. Problem was most of the guys were already back home for the holidays. The logistics were going to be really tough to pull off.
At Rutgers, this semester doesn't finish until today so majority of the players were still on campus.

Re: Wake Forest Needs a Gator Bowl Opponent
It would have been nice to go back to Florida and take down one of the top ACC teams to wrap season. Too bad logistics couldn't permit. I will just end the year believing we would have done that and it will make me sleep better tonight.
Oh, and yea, the $5M would have also felt good in our account regardless of outcome.
