Re: Time to give Shawn Clark contract extension
Per University press release, Clark has been extended through 2026. No details of the deal yet, but obviously DG and the board agreed that he deserves the extension.
I’m thinking it is a good show of good faith in a young coach who could possibly have a tough year next season.

I've found that to be odd too, it's like thinking that unless you've been a politician, just shut up about anything going on in Washington and take whatever decision/leadership they provide.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 12:29 pmOh, and one more point, why do some of the folks on this board think if you have not been a football coach at some point your opinion about our football program is worthless and you do not have enough football IQ to be offering your opinion? That's a bit rich in my opinion.

Re: Time to give Shawn Clark contract extension
I love Clark as a man, having had the pleasure to meet him multiple times, and o do think he is fully capable, but my "jury" is still out on him. With the talent we had this year, super seniors etc, I felt we underperformed. Like I said on the Ponce thread, I'm not pointing to just one or two people, but a Head Coach has a lot of influence over the success or failure of a program. I would like to see us have won, at minimum, our conference before we extend a contract. If we incentivize stagnation instead of progression, we could be plowing in the wrong direction.

I also would think waiting a year would be the prudent move, but i'm going to trust DGs judgement on this one. Beat WKU, then its on to UNC-Cheat, which we need to win.appstatealum wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 3:12 pmI love Clark as a man, having had the pleasure to meet him multiple times, and o do think he is fully capable, but my "jury" is still out on him. Great move on DG's part. Clark is a good man and great HC. Academics are good and no discipline problems of note through 2 tough years, recruiting class checks out and has attracted and retained talented position coaches. He is managing the program and winning at a high level. Finances are obviously tight but this show of faith with a contract extension is deserved.

Agree 100%. First year HC during covid year and went 9-3. Went 10-3 thus far with 2 losses to a very good ULL team.mike87 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 3:59 pmGreat move on DG's part. Two very good recruiting classes and some good transfers to supplement recruiting classes that may not show up in all rankings. In Clark I Trust.

Re: Time to give Shawn Clark contract extension
I’m not expecting a 10 win season, but still think we will win the East. We reload, does Coastal? Georgia State? I think their losses will hurt worse. Does UL take a step back without Napier. I think so, still should be good, but they will have growing pains.Saint3333 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 5:20 pmNailed it as usual Beau.BeauFoster wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 2:47 pmPer University press release, Clark has been extended through 2026. Don’t forget, Marshall and ODU likely will be conference divisional games next season.

Winning the Sun Belt East will be the G5 equivalent of winning the SEC West.

I’m glad Apps have extended Clark’s contract and would assume he and the assistant pool got a bump. It was the right thing to do.

It's possible, but not sure we can say it's likely. Lots of schedules to work out before this becomes a reality.

Re: Time to give Shawn Clark contract extension
When asked about these teams joining the SBC in 2022, DG said that it could happen in other sports but not likely in football. He is looking for them to join in 2023. Anything is possible but a lot that was his comment as of about a week ago.

However, folks at the newbies are hearing from their ADs that they are working towards playing a SBC schedule in 2022.

And people who have proven to be right most of the time are hearing that all four joining the Belt on 7/1/22 is all but done.

Re: Time to give Shawn Clark contract extension
How can JMU join in 22 when they need one year of transition at FCS followed by 1 year transition in FBS? Have they changed the rules since we moved up?

I think they are asking for the rules to be changed. Because of Covid they are already at the needed scholarship limits.

Re: Time to give Shawn Clark contract extension
They can play a full conference schedule but not be bowl eligible in 2022. That's what we did in 2014.
