Re: Updated FPI ESPN Top 25
I like seeing us on a list, but I just always have a funny feeling reading anything like this from ESPN. They have so much interest in the bowls and playoffs I have a hard time separating their polling from their halftime talk that is just a big commercial for the next big game they carry from their legit sports news and commentary that can be good and decent, but the financial cloud hangs over their head too much in my view for CFB.
There needs to be a poll that only comes out about a month into the season so pre-season BS hype has died down some, and the poll is from informed but financially uninterested parties. Then the poll only means so much also because we end the year with a playoff for each conference champion and a few more that the polls do get a say in. Mix the human polls in with a formula that can be objective, even if not perfect and find a few at-large bids.

Good ideas. While reading this post I began thinking about all the folks who have suggested that College Football should have some form of commissioner or managing entity. We may already have it and it’s name is ESPN.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 1:21 pmI like seeing us on a list, but I just always have a funny feeling reading anything like this from ESPN. It is a data analytics program. It really likes something that we and the three ACC schools are doing.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 1:21 pmI like seeing us on a list, but I just always have a funny feeling reading anything like this from ESPN. And now I want to see the algorithm that they use. Again I am glad we are on the list, and it is not that I completely don't trust them, but they have such a financial interest I want to verify. Make the data analytics open source and I am good to go, or at least I have a reason to argue it is a good or bad algorithm.HighlandsApp wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 7:29 pmIt is a data analytics program. We are currently 34th in the Sagarin rankings, La is 42 and unbeaten UTSA is 46. Interestingly Cincinnati is at 8 and the Notre Dame team they beat is 5th.

I think part of this ranking is based on how you will do the rest of the season based on past W/L's. I think we look good against the rest of our schedule compared to others. I am just guessing read the paragraph at the top of the list.

The one that I don't get is Iowa State Cyclones at #9 with a 6-5 record.
