Incredible Dominant Defense
Our Defense really stepped up today:
From the 1st Chase Brice Interception at the 11:55 mark of the 2nd Quarter, Troy's Possessions:
1. Three and Out with two TFL's
2. (After 2nd Brice INT) Three and Out with 1 TFL
3. Three and Out with One Sack
4. INT by TD Roof
5. One Troy First Down followed by a 4th Down Stop with 1 TFL
6. Three and Out with 1 TFL
7. Four and Out with 1 TFL (turnover on downs)
8. Three and Out with 1 Sack
By my count, Troy had one first down in the last 42 minutes of game clock, while the defense registered 6 TFL's, Two Sacks and One INT, two 4th down stops and forced 5 punts.

Re: Incredible Dominant Defense
According to the drive chart on ESPN Troy had 63 and 75 yards on their first 2 possessions. If correct that’s 138 yards. Final stats has them with 142 total. However you slice it we absolutely dominated them from that point on

That effort will move us up about 16 spots in team defense rankings as far as YPG. Puts App at about 330 per

Our defense has been absolutely amazing since that loss at ULL. I think they are on a mission to redeem themselves and they are playing inspiring football.

Re: Incredible Dominant Defense
Our defense has been great and we have no end of great contributors on that side of the ball.
But TD Roof is one of those players who brings the entire squad to another level.
That young man is a SPARK PLUG filled of nitroglycerin and wrapped in C-4 with a bow on top. His value to the D and the entire team cannot be overstated.
We are blessed he decided to stay at App.

Troy looked like the Oregon Ducks vs Utah Saturday night.

It appeared to me that his man sack on Watson and our touchdown at the end of the half changed the direction of the game...Bootsy wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 9:15 pmOur defense has been great and we have no end of great contributors on that side of the ball.

We are #2 in TFL’s this season, 1 behind Oklahoma State. Troy is #3 (and they only had 1 yesterday)

Re: Incredible Dominant Defense
That’s cool. I personally think that’s a great stat. I think sacks are good but if you get a one yard sack and then the team converts a first down it’s kind of meaningless. I wonder what type of conversion rate (so to speak) we have as far as what the opponent did after we generate a TFL or sack?WASU 93 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 21, 2021 9:40 amWe are #2 in TFL’s this season, 1 behind Oklahoma State. Re: Incredible Dominant Defense
Troy gave up.
It started when they punted instead of going for it late in the 2nd.
The whole team smelled blood in the water and capitalized from that point on and it was lead by the Defense who got a spark from TD Roof when he intercepted that pass.

Re: Incredible Dominant Defense
Punting was probably the right decision for Troy on that 4th and 1, given the field position and the fact we had stopped them on 3rd and 1. That said, it did seem to be a turning point. That stop fueled App and ultimately frustrated the Trojans. I just love the way the Apps responded in the second half after a frustrating first half.
Re: Incredible Dominant Defense
Disagree. The turning point of the game was when TD Roof sacked the QB and planted him on the turf. It brought the entire team together and everything went Apps way from then on. Shortly thereafter Troy didnt wanna play no more.

Re: Incredible Dominant Defense
As our running game and Brice continue to mature, we can increase our possession time and keep the defense fresh. Especially important against GS and ULL!

Re: Incredible Dominant Defense
If we can light up Stink next week and repeat the defensive effort we have a great shot to end the regular season top 20 (at least top 25) nationally in offense and defense as far as YPG. That is rarified air and I doubt many teams can pull that off.
