Jamal's Name Change
http://www.journalnow.com/sports/asu/ap ... 0f31a.html
Jamal is using his previous name (from his high school days) as a tribute to his single mother. His jersey will reflect as such.
His football genes arguably came from his biological father, but he seems to credit his mother for much of his success.
I say "kudos" to Jamal.

Everything I see and hear from and about Jamal points to a solid young man who seems to have his head on straight. I'm sure he'll do well in whatever arena of life he lands.

Indeed. It was fun seeing Jamal and other FB players go out of their way at BB games this season to interact with the kids in the stands.

Re: Jamal's Name Change
Jamal lives in my wife's apartment complex. I have met both he and his mother several times. You would be hard pressed to find a better mother-son relationship than the two of them have. She has essentially moved up here most of the year to be closer to him. You can tell close they are by simply being around them for a couple minutes. This also goes without saying but my wife has had ZERO issues with him the last two years she has ran the property. Great kid from a great family.

So we should all look for Jamal Loundry on the Peyton watch list next year.

I actually saw Jamal at womens volleyball a few times this year. He is very approachable and humble to fans. This is a carry over from Jerry Moore culture.proasu89 wrote:DaphneUrquhart wrote:Everything I see and hear from and about Jamal points to a solid young man who seems to have his head on straight. Re: Jamal's Name Change
I wonder if he and some of the other seniors were considered as redshirt candidates. There is nothing to play for this year. We would really need him for the Sun Belt transition in 2014 and the Michigan game instead of playing a new QB. Just a thought.
Re: Jamal's Name Change
Would be nice...but I believe that is something our players are also ineligible for? Hope I'm wrong.ASUPATCH wrote:So we should all look for Jamal Loundry on the Peyton watch list next year.
Re: Jamal's Name Change
He already Redshirted. Besides...most important is that we have someone experienced & in place by '15. No need to delay someone else's growth.AppAttack wrote:I wonder if he and some of the other seniors were considered as redshirt candidates. There is nothing to play for this year. Nothing to play for? How so? We are looking at a last chance to win a Southern Conference Championship for the umpteenth time. It would be ironic to be moving up to "big time" football (as some on here call it) while failing to win our FCS' conference championship. We are also playing U Ga in the late Fall aren't we?AppAttack wrote:I wonder if he and some of the other seniors were considered as redshirt candidates. There is nothing to play for this year. Re: Jamal's Name Change
Several weeks ago I went to the GOASU.com to look up some players, year, weight etc... Was looking in the J's and noticed Jamal was not there. My heart sank, until I sorted by position and there he was. I was afraid that he had left the team. At that time, I did not know he had changed his name.

It wouldn't be ironic. The move to FBS is about more than just wins and losses. If it wasn't, UNCC wouldn't be going straight to CUSA.JCline0429 wrote:Nothing to play for? How so? We are not eligible for another SoCon Championship, and UGA won't garner nearly as much national attention as "the rematch" at The Big House. It would be nice to at least make that game respectable. Who cares if FCS App is blown out at UGA.JCline0429 wrote:Nothing to play for? How so? We are looking at a last chance to win a Southern Conference Championship for the umpteenth time. Re: Jamal's Name Change
I'm sure the players care quite a bit about the upcoming season and the UGA game. That game will be televised and it's a chance to made a good showing against a National Power. I'm sure many fans including myself care a great deal too. If you aren't playing for a Championship you are certainly playing for pride and reputation.AppAttack wrote:We are not eligible for another SoCon Championship, and UGA won't garner nearly as much national attention as "the rematch" at The Big House. Re: Jamal's Name Change
Also UGA is a huge game to a lot of our guys because many of our players come from the state of Georgia. They would love nothing more than to put up a good showing there. They have plenty to play for. People who don't get it; you play for your teammates and you play for pride. Jamal is one of the best leaders and we are very lucky him, Peacock and Washington leading us into this new era of Appalachian Football.SpeedkingATL wrote:I'm sure the players care quite a bit about the upcoming season and the UGA game. Re: Jamal's Name Change
Of course every game means something, but 2014 is more important than 2013 in the history of Appalachian State Football. Redshirting or 'saving' players was simply a thought of mine for discussion, that's all.

Re: Jamal's Name Change
I thought we were still eligible for the championship, just not eligible for the playoffs. Regardless, if we win all our SoCon games, it would make a statement for the players, staff, and alumni.AppAttack wrote:We are not eligible for another SoCon Championship, and UGA won't garner nearly as much national attention as "the rematch" at The Big House.
