Re: College Football News App State Preview
Reasonable, although I’d likely have argued for 10 regular season wins if I was writing that article. Odds are that we slip up somewhere in conference (although the odds for that are never more than a toss up in my opinion) and the national media will expect Miami to walk us.
I don’t think we lose twice in conference and I don’t think we lose more than once out of conference.

Re: College Football News App State Preview
So far, basically all the preseason analysis hinges on what happens at the QB position. They believe we have a very good returning cast in most other areas. However, without some tangible evidence that Chase or one of the other QBs will step up they are not going to pick us ahead of CCU/ULL. Most have even included the caveat that IF the QB role blossoms then we may be NY6 candidates. Anyone basing their opinions on this critical piece of the puzzle is reasonable and I can't argue against it. The only way we know how this ends up is by seeing the results on the field. Chase looked good briefly at Clemson and didn't so much so at Duke. I think we all believe he has the tools to be a great App State QB. The question is will he deliver.
I personally think he will but until he proves it that is just an opinion.

APP may be a dark dark dark horse for NY6. You can remove a dark for each a win over Miami, Coastal, ULL. Other than that its a pipe dream. I'm just hoping for a conference championship. AAC Cincy is the odds on favorite for a NY6, and the media darling. Big uphill battle for anyone else. Cincy got a chance and couldn't close the deal. Coastal had a grand season last year, what did they get...nothing. We are in the wrong conference.

I would say it depends on your definition of dark horse. If you mean we have to run the table to be considered for NY6, then I agree. I would venture to say most of us think with a SBC schedule we need to go undefeated. Is that unfair? Not necessarily in my mind. If we are a true NY6 level team then we should probably win every game this year. But, it also depends on the other NY6 candidates and how they do. I would be the first to say if we lose two we should not be in NY6 discussion. If we lose one it all depends on who we lost to and how did everyone else do. The one lose may be enough to disqualify us.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Mon Aug 09, 2021 3:09 pmAPP may be a dark dark dark horse for NY6. You can remove a dark for each a win over Miami, Coastal, ULL. Everybody is high on Cincy this year but they have 2 very potential losses before even getting to conference play. They have to go to Notre Dame and I just can't see them winning that one and they have to play Indiana as well. Now, we will see this season if Indiana is for real or if they caught lightening in a bottle during the pandemic and made the most of it, but if they are for real I doubt Cincy pulls that one off either.

Felt that article was spot on.
Dumb mistakes murdered us in both the Louisiana and Coastal games. And Marshall’s defense owned us in Huntington. I’ll also never forget that fumble (shudder).
New OC. Second year head coach. New QB that was debatably poor at Duke. Any sensible person from the outside looking at us would be fair to give us 8-9 wins with our schedule.
Personally I like it. We needed a little chip on our shoulder. I’m cautiously optimistic but I’ve got a feeling we are gonna blast ECU in Charlotte and put everyone on notice.

Great article, they did their Homework.
O Line and coaching staff are my keys to the season, both do well, we have a special year coming up.

If we lose to Miami and they win the ACC or are in the ACC conference championship game, we could probably have a shot at the NY6 with one loss. Assuming others have 1 or more losses. As others have said, it depends on what the losses look like. If Cincinnati loses to NotreDame and they make the CFP, it won't hurt Cincinnati's NY6 campaign.

This. I don't get being upset with outside prognosticators given the several reasonable question marks. We have a lot back but so does everyone else that finished a head of us. It doesn't mean they are right, but their picks are not unreasonable.ah59396 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 09, 2021 8:33 pmFelt that article was spot on.

In ULL game, they tried to give game to us with 3 muffed punts and then the safety on the punt. That game was not as close as scoreboard. We were lucky to be in that game. For CCU, I was there and we should have won. Peoples being limited in second half and turnovers lost the game at the end of the day.hapapp wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 5:02 amThis. Re: College Football News App State Preview
Mentioned on another thread that we moved a son in yesterday (that in itself is great) but on Sunday we stopped at the top of the hill and watched the last little bit of practice- before some guy yelled at us to “read the signs “. At any rate, for what it’s worth we did see Chase throw 3 balls, under pressure, on a rope for at least 50 yards into our receiver’s hands. I have not seen that particular aspect of an App QB in quite a while. Again, small sample and in the scheme of things it means almost nothing but still..
I personally think that the key to our season is offensive line play. If we can establish our run game and if Chase has time to set his feet we will be virtually unstoppable at times. I worry a little about our smaller defensive line in goal line situations but we should be terrors between the 20’s.
Not a bad write up and obviously the guy can’t go into our depth completely but I think Horn and Wells will be a handful outside and Noel will be potentially awesome as well.

Re: College Football News App State Preview
To me, this season comes down to our transfers. It is unknown how they perform in our system. Chase Brice, Stu Head, Madison Cone, Donte Small, Isiah Helms, Jahmir Smith. If those guys some in and pick up our systems and perform at a high level, I think we are in for a hell of a great season. If they don't or aren't as good as we expected, it may be a disappointing season. We lose skill and depth if they can't be counted on.

Sheeeesh, didn't realize the App State defense had 19 Forced Fumbles and only recovered 3.
Hope they can still get after it this year and take advantage of the loose balls.
