I'm not going to complain about being #32. Its probably about where we actually stack up.

I do however have problems with UNC, USC & ND rankings...but why should I waste the key strokes complaining about sports writers opinions

I’m honestly delighted with this. We are still a very new FBS team. A G5 FBS team. Playing in the Sun Belt. With a new coach. And many in the AP consider us to be among the top 25 teams in the country in the Preseason. Unbelievable achievement for our young FBS program.

You are probably right but you are assuming that we have a season. With all the CFB politics and the remaining liability, I'm 50/50 on if we have a fall season. I have always thought we would but we need some good news that can be implemented ASAP on the medical front.

I hope I am wrong but I really think the SEC is just kicking the can down the road and will ultimately cancel, along with the rest, in about 2 weeks.

I'm of a different mindset on all of this, and that this is a HUGE opportunity for us.

-potentially more TV coverage since there will be less teams playing.
-potentially a much high TOP 25 ranking.
-And if we go undefeated who knows where we will end up in a bowl scenario, that's if bowl games are played.

Of course all of this hinges on teams playing and navigating the craziness of COVID this year which is the big unknown.

I know but I'm wondering as well how many players would actually return? Also, what about our current commits if a large chunk return? Several committed because they saw the real likely shot they play as freshmen but would any of them flip if say 2 or 3 senior OL, 2 senior WR, and one of the senior QBs were to return? I'm not sure. Ideally a few do return and we keep all of our commits. We will have to see how it plays out. I think several of our players are 50/50 on it and how they play this year would determine whether they return or not. I think we have about 11 or 12 seniors who seriously will make a run at the NFL and could at least get a tryout with a good year.

I agree but like you said it depends on that. The good news though is the CDC says if you don't have symptoms we don't need to test. That would shrink the positive numbers if those who are not sick are not being tested. I'm just worried about the liability that has many others cancelling and their pressure on the rest if we can actually have a season. I feel like we better get news in the next 2 weeks that makes those who cancelled look like they rushed to judgement.

NCAA does not run the FBS playoffs so if all the remaining schools play they could indeed claim a real national title. The only thing is that the Big Ten and Pac-12 will try to say it was not really the title but only Ohio State among those two leagues has been anywhere close to it anyway so I would still consider the champ as being legit.

With that said, I'm not sure what to think with all this. I really want football but I know this whole thing is a mess and almost feel like the easiest thing to do is just cancel this season and play next year. I'm really hoping we get major breakthroughs in treatments and vaccine very soon that become a game changer and allow us to have a full, safe season.

I mean let's not pretend like these rankings are somehow going to mean the same thing they usually do. Being #13 or whatever out of 70 teams isn't the same as being #13 out of 130.

The reason I took the stance I did was because many other teams claim titles that should really come with an asterisk. I think if we play a full season that the champion will claim their title to be legit. Just because they claim it does not mean people won't point out that many teams did not play. To be realistic though, Ohio State and Oregon are the only two teams who have announced they are sitting out already who have had any relevance in the CFP though.

You make a fair point. I don't believe we have the 13th best team in the nation based on who is playing this year, but apparently a bunch of sportswriters do.

We didn't plan or want this. If we end up being ranked in the top 20 for a bunch of weeks, we're just padding our stats that we can use in recruiting.

OK, that season when App was in the top 20 all year long came with an asterisk.

That list includes a ton of teams who have won a national championship multiple times, and we are ranked ahead of them this year, with no asterisk.

These votes didn't come from our fans, or our alums, and here we are.

Again, I think if we played a schedule against those teams we'd have a losing record, but we can't control that, and we can't control where sportswriters rank us, good or bad, so when they say we're the 13th best team in the nation among the teams willing to play, including 3 of the Power 5, I'm not apologizing for it.

It's what we've earned. That's our reputation, that's the respect we've earned, and we have another opportunity to grow the brand by going undefeated, even if our schedule didn't include a P5 team.

It's not like we didn't try. We had 2 on the schedule until they were cancelled by our opponents.

We play the cards we are dealt. We always have.

But we have a seat at the table.

And we should use that seat as a tool for more growth. Because in the coming years, we go on the recruiting trail, we can say more than "We beat Michigan" and we beat "UNC and So Car." "We took Penn St to overtime."

We can say that for the past two years, we finished the season ranked higher, by sportswriters who have no connection to Boone, ranked higher than more than half of SEC, Big 10, Pac 12, Big 12 and ACC schools.
