"Give Em Hell" chant

Just curious....Someone that has graduated in the last 15 years....Are you guys familiar with the "Give em Hell" chant at the end of the drum cadence when the marching band is leaving the field? I see a few older folks like me saying it but not any young ones yelling it.

Just curious. It was very common at our basketball games in the late 80s and 90s. I would like to see it come back. Or "Give em Heck"

Former band geeek. Yeah it’s still played. I would say most of the reason is the lack of stability in the band director position and that most people don’t hear it. That cadence is please once the band enters the gate on the far side all the way to when the band stops for space chords and the fight song in front of the student section. It just so happens to be the same cadence that’s played for the pregame show entrance but “give em hell” is not vocalized during the pregame show.

Give’em Hell! Just what I know from ‘86-‘90 years. No idea of its evolution but it still works for me.

Do the students yell “give em Hell” at the end of the drum break or is it a thing of the past????

as a follower of the cabin, my understanding is that there has been an evolution to, "you suck, asshole."

I believe "Give em Hell" originated in the early 70's. The story I've been told is the person who announced the BOD halftime would
close with "This is John Doe, reminding you to Give em Hell Apps!"
I think it is unique to us and wish it were at the end of the fight song, Go Apps, Fight Apps, Give em Hell. Not crazy about the morphing from
Win Apps to Kick Ass.
Give em Hell Apps is our "Anchor Down Dores", "Fire Up Chips", "Hoddy Toddy"
I wish it was more prevalent.
Just my opinion though, I'm not a hall of famer.

When I started in fall 1973 the BOD would enter the stadium and march in front of the student body, yelling the "Give 'em Hell!" at the end of each cadence. The really cool thing was that if you were in your seat prior to their entrance you could hear the cadence coming up Stadium Drive and the "Give 'em Hell" waaaay off in the distance. The anticipation was so great that once the band was on the track the students were in an uproar!

Graduated in 2018 and didn’t even know that was a thing sadly because it sounds cool.

I attended my first App State football game in 1988. I remember being in the student section pre-game and hearing the drum cadence and "GIVE 'EM HELL" as the BOD marched up the hill to KBS. And the response when the BOD entered the stadium was unreal.

Between that, the electricity in the stadium and the mist over Howard's Knob, I fell in love with App State and knew I wanted to be a Mountaineer.

And then App took the field and crushed the Citadel, 38-14. What a day!

That video is how I remember it - from the band walking up to the stadium. I like it as well. Don’t remember it in-stadium but I could well have just blanked on it.

"Give 'em Hell" making a comeback when the band marches off after the National Anthem (Football) and off the field at halftime (Football)would be great. But where I miss it the most, is when the pep band at basketball games would play it. We need some young people to spread this through the "Neer" generation. Or as I call them "Generation NEER"

Give’em Hell needs to be played often in stands. IMO Would be a great to play on 3rd down.

My favorite memories of Give’em Hell was hearing the BOD playing it marching through the pavilion pregame in ‘nooga ‘05-‘07. Man that place was loud.

Back in the day bacaaaak in the day. Would get to Conrad early for games. The band marched all the way from the music building across rivers st Up stadium dr into stadium playing that cadence. It was great! To hear them getting closer and closer. As they marched the brass maybe other sections would put on a show and shout “ get up off that thing” credit James Brown.
In those days give em hell during fight song and at end of half time show by announcer also.

I should have read your post. I said almost the same thing. It was such a build up to the game as BOD got closer and closer.
Give me hell!

Also the sousaphones would charge up Stadium Drive, and the trumpets would blast the traffic cop at the bottom of the hill on the parade to the stadium.
