Just saw where Missouri has fired their coach. I’ve felt like we will lose Drink to another program all year. Let’s enjoy the stellar year we’re having and get ready to do it again next year with the next up and comer.

Let’s not start this again. It’s bad for morale and paranoia.

I'd put the odds at 25 percent he leaves.

There are many more established coaches who are having stellar years. McElwain and Kiffin (I’ve seen where he’s on Arkansas’ radar now) should be at the top of most teams’ lists followed by Fickel, Norvell, Sonny Dykes, and Bill Clark. Drink needs to prove he can win with his own recruits before he can leapfrog those names.

Coaching college football is way more encompassing than on the field performance. If you want me to give an honest assessment of Drink, here it is:
1. He took over an already successful team filled with another coaches recruits.
2. We have not seen how his recruiting will be
3. At times, he lacks fluidity in his play calling and gets very intimidated in his play calling.
4. He has great gravitas with the media and alumni
5. He has a high offensive IQ
6. He shows a lot of poise on the outside, even if he may be feeling some pressure.
7. He is quick to learn and seems to adapt to situations nicely.
Right now, the book is still out on Drink. We obviously love him because he picked up where Satt left off and seems to have taken the next step with our offense. But Satt got a P5 offer because of his proven record of building a culture. Drink has a little time to show what he is capable of, and I think most programs will want to see that. There may be some desperate program that makes a brash decision and Drink will be on some lists, but I doubt he will be a top option for any P5 program this early in his tenure.

I'm trying to look at this as as someone impartial and I agree he has not had enough time to prove for sure he can be the guy. I think many fanbases would be glad to take him because they see what we are doing but I just don't think Arkansas and Missouri are better situations. The one opening right now that I think would be interesting and I would take if I'm him is FSU but I think they are swinging for a big name. If I'm Drink I would stay at App rather than Missouri and Arkansas because right now we are truly a better place to be right now. Our stock is rising in the CFB world.
Message to Drink, if you want to be here we want you here but if you are just chasing money and don't want to be here then just go and do so after the ULL game. I will not be mad if he does but all the rumors every year will get to players and be tough to recruit. If he indeed goes we should just get someone like Clark or another coach who wants to stay here. Our players are special and deserve a staff who wants to coach them and not one who is trying to get out of the door every few months.

Don't set yourself up for disappointment if Drink leaves.
We're in a new reality where this kind of rumongering will happen every November/December.

I heard Coach Neuheisel on the radio one day talking about how the CFB head coaching jobs are so coveted because there’s so few of them, especially the P5 jobs and it changed the way I thought about this. I used to be like many of you who thought it would make sense for Drink to wait for the right situation for him and what not but that’s probably not how it’s going to work. To illustrate, on that same radio show days later Jim Mora Jr was asked what he would say if Rutgers wanted to talk and he said I would say, “Let’s talk” and he went on to sell the benefits of a Rutgers program. I realize that he’s out of coaching whereas Drink is commanding a top 25 program but you get the point.

At least three years for certain. Drink inherited a Porsche and has turned it into a Bentley. Can he be consistent? Can he recruit and retain? Several ??s to be answered. Let's not worry about it and enjoy the ride!

3-4 years minimum. I feel he wants to prove more than 1 year to solidify his future.

Drink is a really good coach but he took an already loaded team and quite honestly i'm not sure if we would have had a different result this year under Satt with the same team in terms of wins and losses. I do think however...IF he would have gone undefeated with a new years six bowl and win that game too...he would have been gone but i think minimum 2 to 3 years before someone P5 gives him a shot

If I’m an AD at at P5 school, I’m going to want to see more than one year of head coaching experience out of a guy, I don’t care how successful that one year has been. Drink has done a great job and I will be stunned if he’s here for his full contract term but I just don’t think it will be this soon.

Look at Arky State 2011-2014. Revolving door with very solid but not elite performances. Changing coaches for bowls and seasons annually Freeze, Malzahn, Harsin to Ole Miss, Auburn and Boise. Drink will be in some talks and may have decision to make depending on how much movement occurs around the country.

Rather than cite yet again the countless examples of why “at least 3-4 years” and “he has to win with his own recruits” are myths, let me ask the folks who believe that: Why do you think that will be the case with Drink when it has not been the case for so many other coaches?

Also yes, the fact that Missouri fired their coach is not really grounds for a new thread about Drink supposedly being gone.
