247 sports says we won't win 9 or more

Here is the snippet. "Four consecutive seasons of nine or more victories will end for Appalachian State without Scott Satterfield as coach, but the Mountaineers should still compete for a high finish in the Sun Belt with much of their two-deep returning including quarterback Zac Thomas. That changes if Appalachian State is able to beat ACC opponent North Carolina or SEC squad South Carolina on the road."

We do have some injuries and I don't expect to go undefeated perhaps but they are saying we should lose 4 games in the regular season? If so, that is unacceptable. I hope Drink sees stuff like this and laughs and proves them wrong. There is no doubt after seeing South Carolina and UNC that we can run with them both. If our coaching is good we should surprise the media.

Kind of an odd take considering they’re apparently predicting us to win the conference. Obviously that could happen at 8-4, but they’re really threading the needle if that’s the forecast.

8-4 unacceptable? IMO a disappointment but unacceptable with a completely new staff seems a bit harsh. 2 p5 games in the mix. You might want to calm down.

Yes, 8-4 is not acceptable unless ZT goes down. We have too much talent. I think people put too much focus on a coaching change. There have been schools have a coaching change and improve 3-5 wins. To expect a conference title and more than 9 wins is not harsh.

I think a 8-4 regular season would be horrible...however...north carolina will be a bigger uphill battle than even realist expected. Unless they get slaughtered their next 2 games AND we beat Charlotte by 40...I dont see us being favored in that game. But we can only control us, I hope Drinkwitz has the boys focused on the 49ers...they arnt our rivals, but no one looks up to us more and wants to beat us more. That includes GA Southern...we will get everything Charlotte has.

Based on the early part of the game this week that may be true. We'll see if everything smooths out and improves.

Good lawd it was 42-freaking 7! What did we need to do win 70-0?

In the end it looked great, wasn't looking great through most of the 1st half. Just kinks to work out in the new schemes/players I'm sure. But I'm much less confident in the harder games this season currently, hope it all looks great this coming week.

New coaches, new-ish scheme, missing a top receiving target, over matched opponent (vanilla play calling)...all lead to a lackluster first half. In the end, we were prepared, committed very few penalties, tackled fairly well. We all saw things that needed to be worked on, which I believe will happen in the coming weeks.

I have no doubt in my mind that if Satt and co had stayed, we would have firmly been in the NY6 conversation. I still think there’s a good chance of that happening.

Just read that South Carolina is going to a freshman QB. Both P5 opponents same boat.

Wow, benching a 3 year starter in his senior season. Don't hear about that happening often at all.

It’s been reported that Bentley has a foot injury and is out indefinitely.

I don’t know that I buy that Bentley is hurt. He may be, but as bad as he played at the end of the UNC game, he probably deserved to at least be pressured by the backup.

SC gave the holes that one.

Stoked to be going to both the Carolina games. Looking forward to their return trips up the mountain as well.

As far as the original post re: "247 sports says we won't win 9 or more." I love it when the world underestimates our guys. Hopefully, the team has posted this article in the locker room...

I'm not sure why anything would have changed after game 1 considering GS got obliterated in their game (although by a very good LSU) and Troy only won 43-14 against Campbell....much weaker opponent than ETSU. Maybe we're supposed to be afraid of GSU now with their ONE game winning streak.

I think they have to stir up some excitement somehow. Let's just play the games.
