A heads up to fellow Mountaineers traveling west on I-40 through Winston-Salem this weekend. May want to avoid Business 40.

BUSINESS 40 THROUGH WINSTON-SALEM:
Work is set to begin at 7 p.m. Friday with all lanes closed in both directions between Peters Creek and Cloverdale Avenue by 10 p.m. This phase of work is expected to be completed by 4 p.m. Sunday.

Westbound traffic will be directed off Business 40 at Peters Creek.

Motorists will go right and then take a left onto West 1st Street. They will follow West First to Cloverdale to re-enter Business 40. Eastbound traffic will exit off Business 40 at Cloverdale and be directed to West 1st, then to Peters Creek to re-enter Business 40.

Good heads up. Also, Business 40 will be shut down completely scheduled to begin in November in the same area to completely redo the road, exits and bridges. This is expected to last about 16 to 18 months.

I was diverted this past Saturday, that will certainly alter my route this week.

I remember back in the '60's when you could drive that section and smell the 'baccy' being processed.
