Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. DJ Smith - Outside LB Coach - Nick Cardwell - 10th Assistant

Per footballscoop.com:

Appalachian State: Per source, DJ Smith will coach the outside linebackers, Greg Gasparato (who was previously announced as a defensive assistant) will coach the safeties, and Nick Cardwell is joining the staff as the 10th assistant. Cardwell previously worked

I love it when we hire our own and either launch or help them along with their coaching careers. Is this common at other schools?

Nick previously worked at North Greenville University. I spoke with him just recently when he came by York HS. We had a good remembrance when I reminded him of the end of the Richmond game!
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

While I do like bringing in outsiders for fresh perspective at times, I am really happy about these 2 hires. DJ coaching linebackers at App State just seems a natural fit.

DJ was always regarded as a cerebral player, wouldn't shock me to see him move up the coaching ranks quickly.

Cardwell will probably focus on TEs and help out with either special teams or the passing game. Just a guess.

Glad the coaches are set before we start spring ball. Did The Packers use the 3-4 defense as their base defense when DJ was drafted?

Wasn’t it a Don Capers defense. I believe he teaches a 3-4.

The Packers do run a 3-4, or they did under Capers they have a new defense coach so we shall see if it stays 3-4

Rod Broadway played at UNC-Chapel Hell, then coached there before moving on to Duke and others.
