Finding Nittmo: What happened to Bjorn Nittmo?

Unread post by scatman77 » Sat Jan 28, 2017 8:29 am

This is a long read but worth the time. It's so sad to see where he was and where he is now, after multiple concussions. I wish him well, and his family also.

We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

I wonder if he and his ex-wife know this from the comments: The NFL has a pension system which kicks in at 50 years old. He must be near this by now. His wife can collect back child support from this. He is also entitled to SS disability payments. Someone should look out for his best interests, as he obviously cannot.

He only played in 6 NFL games, not sure what kind of pension he would have. It would be nice, but I just don't know that he would get much.

And to get SS Disability payments there are many doctors and a lawyer or 3 that has to get involved before being approved for that. Will he be able to subject himself to that?

I think there is a minimum number of seasons to qualify for the NFL pension.

interestingly, here is an article that i had sent out back in Sept. I find it odd that two writers from the same newspaper would do a story about a former NFL kicker only 4 months apart?

It doesn't have to be an attorney, a SS Claims Representative can do it.

A vast majority of all new SS claims for disability and those under the retirement age are denied. thats where the atty's come in.

A few things are fairly automatic - dialysis I can speak to from experience of not needing a lawyer.

I thought this was the same article that was just reposted to be honest. That is interesting to have so much coverage, though it it helps him out then bring even more on in my opinion.

For what appears to be a clear cut case of brain trauma from playing in the NFL it is a shame the NFL will not look out for former players like this.

I can tell you from experience, my son born at 23 weeks, having cerebral palsy, nothing is freaking automatic, especially from the government.

My dad had to wait for 6 months for disability but he did draw one check while he was days from death and that did not take a lawyer. I hate to hear you had problems, not that I liked how long my dad had to wait, it was more a waiting game than a denial and appeal with a lawyer situation.
