Saturday @ KBS ... CLASS

I don't like Furman ... not at all. I don't like GaSo ... not at all. Same goes for Elon, Western, Wofford, UTC, Samford, and ElCid.

I also saw what it looked like last Saturday when a GaSo group of fans went all ugly on us. Though I had trouble keeping my cool a few times Saturday, I did not knock the poo out of the guy in front of me who so desperately deserved it and did not raise my voice. It did not make him any less obnoxious.

That said, please remember that Furman fans are our guests in the High Country this weekend. Remember that they're spending their money in our town. Remember what it felt like to have GaSo fans throwing bottles and cups at us when we were the visitors. Remember that our players will do all the talking for us on the field.

Please keep your mouth shut if you feel the urge to curse at Furman fans ... especially if there are kids with them. Please do not return ill for ill should you be the recipient of such. Please face the field and not the fans behind you. Please yell your heart out FOR the Mountaineers. Please help those around you focus on the game and the support for our team ... they've more than earned it.

It's time to bring home another SoCon championship. Go App!!!!!

Well stated. It'll be enough that we'll abuse them at "Bobby's Corner" again....and again...and again.....

What's wrong with wanting opposing fans to walk away with some respect for your program and fans? If you're in favor of some of the behavior that OP called out then go be a GSU fan; you'll fit right in.

'97 grad, when it comes to visiting fans I am very hospitable. I enjoy interacting with the opposition and sharing some beers or letting them watch other games on the TV at our tailgate.

"Please do not return ill for ill should you be the recipient of such."

The OP makes some good points, but this quote is a joke. There is no chance I am going to let an opposing fan punk me down on my own campus.

That, of course, is your option. I've never been "punked down" anywhere nor have I needed to return ill for ill. I am definitely not a pushover by any stretch of the imagination!

Instead, I prefer to "fight" like someone who is much brighter than my opponent. I've also found that not reacting to someone who's trying to get a reaction out of me is more maddening to them than it is taxing to me.

One example I'll share is from last weekend in Statesboro. As the drunk GaSo fan (wait, is that redundant?) in front of us continued turning around to us and yelling "Scoreboard, scoreboard," I simply looked at him, acknowledged that I knew that was the scoreboard and wondered aloud if he knew that THAT (pointing the opposite direction) was the fieldhouse. Far be it from me to hinder someone's vocabulary development. After that interchange, I kept my eyes focused on the field and my voice (which is finally returning) screaming for our Mountaineers. Eventually, the guy just shut up.

I will not give any fan from any school the opportunity to say that App fans are classless. If I'm the only glimpse that someone has of Appalachian State University, I want them to see the best university in the nation.

That's a great post. Courtesy is something that champions possess and demonstrate. I will never, ever mistreat an opposing fan. However, if one gets in my face, this rule does not apply.

Yeah I can see that. Though I can see the wisdom of that quote I'm not sure I would be wise enough to heed it. Though my kids being at the game would likely temper any response I would make :D

I agree with most on here about showing our best to opposing fans, but the one thing that always gets me riled up is the FU 1 time, FU 2 times, FU ALL THE TIME CHEER...That particular cheer (pure classless) and my reaction after a hard fought, famous playoff win a few years ago, is how I got the 'fury' nickname. Not particularly proud now of what I did, but I managed to get my point across...albeit on a bus full of Furman students.
I vow to do better. (hopefully)

Daphne, I am with you 10,000%....and must meet you just to say hi! I missed you last week because quite frankly, like you I was being abused from an hour before the game until 1:12 left. I was never "scared" but I am glad Camilla was not with me....we would have had to leave....she is not going to be stressed out at a game.

I was gracious during the game, acknowledging what appeared to be poor officiating on both sides and the requisite jeering while they were ahead. I will go back to Ga. Southern....but I will order my tickets early and sit with APP fans....safety in numbers....

Like you I will support my "Neers" and do it with passion and class. Last week one guy kept telling the "obnoxious" drunk behind me to keep the berating of me up because he had been abused in Boone. At the end of the game, I game him my card with my seat number on it. I said I would be in the same seat next year....and after.....If he ever came up and was abused by anyone from ASU like I was abused at GSU last week to come get me and I would see to it it was taken care of.

Just treat people like you want to be treated.

go APPS!
