Cheering 101
Cheering 101
This has been disturbing to me, thinking back that it probably started last year, but even more pronounced after ODU and Miami. The majority of the noise from the crowd would never come start until the play was already called in and the opponents were lined up. Watching the game again today, it became painfully obvious how quiet the Rock was unless the 3rd down bell was ringing. With 30k+ and probably 9k+ of students, wouldn't think we would need to call it out, but lets get LOUD whenever our defense is on the field so they cannot call in a play quickly and clearly.

They use signals, noise has no effect on them. The whole team is able to see what play is. But I do agree we need all the noise we can get.

Re: Cheering 101
The noise level has gone down over the years. So has the amount of people leaving at halftime. I realize people have always left at halftime, but it seems to happen a lot more these days. Not questioning the move up to FBS, but with that seems to have come a different breed of fans.
Oh well. Speaking for myself I was pretty damn loud.

We need cheerleaders on the east side. Really miss the dance team after they left the east side a few years ago.

One thing I noticed being on Miller Hill, our folks need to understand that when we have the ball on offense on pre-snap not to be loud. I thought this was common knowledge but can understand if folks were overcome with enthusiasm when we were driving towards the endzone!

Re: Cheering 101
I also thought this was common sense - but this weekend (and others) have proven me wrong. I also do not understand why we pipe in music prior to big plays on offense when they are either in the huddle or calling in the play. Furthermore, our cheer squad is trying to get the crowd into the game during these same big plays on offense. I have noticed some other programs actually have 'Quiet' signs held up by their cheer squads during offensive drives to calm the crowd.ASUGoose wrote:One thing I noticed being on Miller Hill, our folks need to understand that when we have the ball on offense on pre-snap not to be loud. Unfortunately, whoever does our video board and music seem to have a background in minor league baseball or hockey. Every play does not require some hipster song, we have a great band. Little leery of the Marketing Dept.!

I assume that the reason we didn't hear it Saturday is because the only time App kicked off were in the 3rd quarter which is when the band is on break. Maybe someone from the BOD can confirm this.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote:I missed the band playing the Olympics song at kick off, what was up with that?

I am willing to meet with Gillin or whoever is in charge of the canned music to voice displeasures about it and discuss ways to fix the issue. There's way too much canned music in KBS this season.

Please do. If i lived up there i would have done it already. I thought there was improvement in that area a bit this weekend. Not so bad in the first half but got worse as the game went on.T-Dog wrote:I am willing to meet with Gillin or whoever is in charge of the canned music to voice displeasures about it and discuss ways to fix the issue. I met Mr. Gillen a few months ago when they did the little meet & greet here in Atlanta and talked to him quite a bit. I found him to be very approachable and he seemed genuinely interested in hearing suggestions. I wish id have thought about the canned music then but unfortunately it didnt cross my mind. But this has to be brought under control.

Re: Cheering 101
I was going to make music a separate thread. The music is out of control. I'm sick of the 10 seconds running into the snap counts. It takes away from the enjoyment of the game.App74 wrote:The piped in music between every play was annoying. Does more to take fans out of the game than to engage them.
