Coach Drink Staff Thread

Another concern that I've seen is that Roof has moved around a lot. I don't see that as a major concern. Look at most position coaches or Off/Def coordinators they move around a lot - only staying at most 3-4 years normally. These coaches are mostly looking to move up and gain experiences that will help them as they rise.

Just from our own staff that most here think well of:

Shawn Clark: since 2001 Louisville for 2 years, EKU for 6 yrs, Purdue for 4 years, Kent St for 3 years, now App for 3 years

Greg Gasparato: Since 2010 Richland Northeast (HS) 1 yr, Juniata College 1 yr, Brevard 1 yr., App St (1st time) 2 years, Wofford 3 years, now App St (second time) 1 yr.

Gene Chizik who most would say is/was a good DC:

1986–1987 Seminole HS (FL) (DC/LB)
1988–1989 Clemson (GA/OLB)
1990–1991 Middle Tennessee (DE)
1992–1994 Stephen F. Austin (LB)
1995 Stephen F. Austin (DB)
1996–1997 Stephen F. Austin (DC/DB)
1998 UCF (DC/LB)
1999–2001 UCF (DC/DB)
2002–2004 Auburn (DC/DB)
2005–2006 Texas (co-DC/AHC/LB)
2007–2008 Iowa State (HC)
2009–2012 Auburn (HC)
2015–2016 North Carolina (DC)

We need to step outside of our former line of thinking and realize that coaching is a nomadic life for most. We've just been blessed with coaches that liked working for App and living in Boone.

Concern not listed: Roof has moved along twice prior to being fired, both of which occured recently. In 2011 he left Auburn for UCF when he would've been fired had he stayed. In 2017 he left Georgia Tech for NC State, prior to being fired.

If you see that on the resume of someone you are about to hire, are you going to hire that person?

But you’re the same guy who wanted everyone to overlook the negative stats and results around Ruffin’s tenure at ECU. You offered every excuse for Ruffin, but you want to crucify Roof before he’s set foot on campus. Can’t have it both ways and be credible.

Based upon this comment and thinking one should only watch Foxnews or MSNBC. It’s good to have different views on things.

Both teams that moved him along had deeper issues that went way beyond him. Chizik was a year away from being fired himself at Auburn, and Johnson was more or less encouraged to move along at GT. His last Auburn team was mostly Freshman & Sophs and the talent level at Tech is shockingly low for a P5 in Atlanta...admission requirements notwithstanding.

He ran the 3-4 his entire tenure at Tech, so I’m not worried about that. I don’t think he’s Brent Venables or anything, but I think he’ll do just fine. Remember - the DC everyone wanted back was a career assistant at Wofford, and is now choosing between G5’s and Army...and his D at Tech this year wasn’t much better than Roof’s.

I agree but for myself I just disagree with the hire. Just because we disagree with the hire doesn’t mean we are hysterical.

I think where we can draw lines is if someone was going to pull their Yosef donation or not renew their season tickets because of Roof. I haven’t heard anyone say they would do that yet.

We are heading east to Raleigh for the weekend to see our oldest son. We are going to the NC State basketball game tonight and will talk with friends to see what they think of our football coaches coming from State. I have always heard good things about them I am pretty sure.

BBQ - Also, will get some of that great Eastern NC BBQ this weekend. As agreed by all on this board Eastern NC BBQ is the best!

I'll put in my three cents here.....

1. I put red wine vinegar in a lot of stuff, so...
2. I prefer Western style pulled pork BBQ
3. I love any type of BBQ, or pulled pork for that matter. Mustard style, Eastern style, heavy vinegar, light vinegar, tomato based, it really doesn't matter. It's all outstanding, add a sweet tea and I'm there. But to reference a hundred posts ago, wings are my vice and trump all (add a beer please).

He may be referring to the fact that there is no expectation to play defense in the Big 12. As long as OUs offense is putting up 50+ per game, being a DC at that program takes minimal effort and creates a "zero" stress environment.

Doubtful Lincoln would completely remove Ruffin from staff considering what Ruffin did for Lincoln in bringing him to ECU as OC but i highly doubt Ruffin is DC at OU next year, not sure being DT coach is having it made compared to HC but to each his own.

What Appstatealum said. As long as he can hold teams to 30 points or less he is good. Most of us could do that. He will be fine. Also by has it made he is getting paid quite a bit to under perform and by under perform I mean he doesn’t have to perform in that conference.
