Sounds like a bunch of arrogant people whining who still think they're living in the 80's still.

In that movie Paul Crewe went to Florida State.

They are saying embarrassing to play us. I'd like to log on and ask what the hell is going to Duke and Wake? We have a lot better football atmosphere in Boone than Durham and Winston-Salem. What an ignorant lot.
My thought was, no matter what heights our program may reach years down the road that our fans don't ever get that ignorant or arrogant.

I know there are opposing fan bases that consider us arrogant, but they need to go read these posts if they want to see real arrogance.

Miami is like Georgia Southern. Won some times in the 80's, had a resurgence in the late 90's and now get owned by their rivals.

AppinATL, there are a few on that board giving us a little credit. But the Caines fans with green and orange glasses on can't see they're a program in disrepair. They need to rebuild from the ground up. It does them no good to play the #1 OCC schedule in America and get their face masks kicked in 0-4 or 1-3. If they can play a pretty good OOC slate and go better than .500 every year they'd rebuild to where they want to be. I remember when Miami was one of the elite programs too, but they're not anymore. Doesn't mean they can't get back there. If we're somehow able to pull a win in that game it'd be program defining for us.

The "they're not good enough to lick the dirt off our cleats" attitude is just something we're going to have to deal with until we pull some of these upsets. We won't be given ANYTHING. We have to go out there and take it. This isn't pillow fighting, this is FBS football.

Weird to think with wins until the U game they might be the underdog.

And, if I remember correctly, that re-make of that movie came out in 2004 - 2005 right before our 1st natl title.

And the final nail in the coffin of Adam Sandler's career if I remember correctly.

Yes and from what I understand the whole line was a set up to honor one of the technical advisers on the film. He was an App grad. Forgot who it was now, getting old.
I went over there and there are a lot of derogatory posts but here are just as many good ones. Some even think they are lucky not to have us this year. Most of the hate is still playing in Boone and here first.

We probably just need to expect reactions like that from some fans until we get more established. Marshall fans were so upset that they scheduled us six years from now that their AD addressed it publicly. And Marshall isn't exactly Miami.

The consultant was Mark Ellis, who played at App in the 80s, though apparently that was a coincidence. This article is a fantastic walk down memory lane to remind you where the program was just over 10 years ago. We were on the verge of a hell of a ride. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/c ... dler_x.htm

I saw that movie in the King St Theater not long before it shut down.

Honestly, I think that most P5 programs would have a similar reaction to scheduling an away game with a G5. There are a few delusional jerks making their "cupcake" comments but most seem to be objecting to the same types of things that App fans would object to. Many of their comments were exactly the same as the ones being posted on the MMB when we scheduled a game at Gardner Webb. It looks like it is a sore spot with them because it comes as a trend that includes games at FIA, FAU, Arkansas State, etc.

Someone early in the thread made the comment that Miami can't pay the big bucks to get opponents to sign one game deals because their fans aren't showing up. A few seem to "get it" and I couldn't care less what the poorly informed delusional idiots think. I would love to get Miami in Boone next season and give them a lesson in Appalachian Football.

PLEASE SIGN THIS DEAL!!!!

GO APPS!!!!

I am thankful for the consideration Miami is giving to us right now. This would boost our program in multiple ways and be an eye opener to those members of our "casual" fan base.

I suspect there would be more objections from fan bases in Chapel Hill and Raleigh if either of those were in discussion. The High Country in September is a great destination game for Miami fans. Floridians are already present in big numbers in the summer and fall in western North Carolina.

Let's do this Miami.

It is amazing the number of comments that refer to App as a DII school or some other division. My god all you have to do is look up the standings on ESPN or some other outlet. Talk about delusional. Going to hang 70 on us?? I really hope this game gets signed. I believe that most of the idiots posting garbage know who we are and, like other P5's don't want to come to Boone for fear of what a loss will do to their potential seasons. For what it's worth isn't next year's team potentially going to be stronger than this team? We will have a defense made up almost entirely with juniors and seniors, a deep and explosive stable of backs, an experienced QB. We all know the deal.

That being said, I am a little stunned that they would make this deal. I could see signing the home and home but requiring us to come there first then having the return game a few years out giving them the option of buying us out. At any rate bring it on U.

Furthermore, I seem to recall that Chancellor Peacock or the Yosef Club or someone in authority around here (not me), sent Adam Sandler an invite to attend an App football game during the 2006 season. This was based SOLELY on his comment about Appalachian in The Longest Yard. I don't believe he attended, but I think he responded to the invitation.

I recall a discussion around that time that it was amazing that he pronounced the name correctly. But, then our ex-player who was an advisor in that movie popped up and said his main contribution was a correct pronunciation of the name.

Does anyone else remember this? If not, maybe I dreamed it.

FWIW, word floating around is that the Miami end is pretty much done. What is still being worked on is our end with negotiating a price and allowing the bought out team to find a replacement game. We'll see soon enough if that word is true but as with anything I never count it as done until it's signed. Fingers Crossed.

I would otherwise have thought the buyout would have been negotiated up front and part of the original contract. Isn't that customary?
