Re: Will this be a growing problem with many bowl games?
Kind of a related comment here...did you see the Temple coach's comments leading up to the Military Bowl game against Wake? He said that the NCAA needs to restructure the conferences into 8 geographically-based leagues and then have an 8 team playoff which I'm assuming would be comprised of the 8 conference champions. Wonder if there'll be any movement for this type of concept. Also, with 10 conferences currently, I wonder who'd get left out in the restructuring? With our record since moving up to FBS I'd think we'd have a better than good chance of being included.

Unless the playoff goes to 16 you'll never see an automatic bid from a G5 conference. At eight the best we can hope for is one G5 autobid.
At eight I believe it would look like the old BCS bowl system. Five P5 conference champs, one G5 program if they finished in the top 16 playoff rankings, and then 2-3 at-larges.

I think what we was referring to was a total restructure of the conferences based on geography, so the old P5/G5 structure wouldn't exist. Obviously, he's a G5 coach so unless there's some kind of ground swell movement he's just a lone wolf howling in the night...interesting to think of the "what-ifs" though.Saint3333 wrote:Unless the playoff goes to 16 you'll never see an automatic bid from a G5 conference. "Integrity, honor, commitment ...". Who are you people trying to fool? In politics and athletics as well as many other places, those are unknown words now. The colleges sold out to the TV money, entered into the ridiculous "we got better facilities" race, started paying coaches way more than the president of this republic, etc., etc. So what do we expect these young 'uns to do? They are following the example set for them. It ain't right, but it is so. The whole thing is out of control and it ain't gonna turn until it runs itself into the ground - until people get sick of it and stop watching and stop going. Not anytime soon.
This is my 39th year in high school athletics. The situation with attitude and lack of work and entitlement and celebrating the average is getting worse everyday. I wish some of these good kids could have played in the mental and emotional environment of 20-30 years ago. Then they would see the true value of playing for a team.
I watch less and less every day. Most every game is meaningless when you play so many all year round. Starve 'em to play, and they'll play. That'll mean less money and the money rules all. Sad.

Well I wonder if Michigan's Jake Butt wishes he would've set this one out? There are real financial consequences to the decisions these "student-athletes" are having to make here. IMO, those of us who have never played college sports, especially those of us who never had a shot at a pro career, can't really speak on these decisions.

Sidebar: I've seen Butt's tweets and I know he said he wouldn't have sat out.

Keep in mind that for every Shock Linwood, there is a Myles Garrett as well. All hope isn't lost, you know.
