Re: Lamb performance so far
Evans looked like a young Steven Jackson the way he runs. Powerful and violent. I can't wait to see him as the years go by.

Re: Lamb performance so far
If there is a G5 coach that can pull in a QB that is a tweener, it's Satterfield. I'm not sure they are recruiting to their coaching strengths as Satt has shown what he can do with an ideal QB prospect (Armanti).bigdaddyg wrote:That run he made was something else. As far as shots down the field goes what exactly defines that play (this is a question for whoever thinks we need more of that)? We hit a couple of 30+ yard TD's. A comment was made that some of the discussion is only about areas that Lamb can improve. Heck every player can improve but TL is a G5 level QB directing a very good G5 level team. There are only a handful of truely good P5 QB's out there.ericsaid wrote:I really think that Darrynton Evans, if he stays at RB full time, is going to be a real force to be dealt with. He can truly be a weapon because you won't have to pull him out of the game. He can easily line up at receiver and rotate back into running back, gives SS options if he decided to start going up tempo again as we won't have to substitute.bigdaddyg wrote:At a point later in the second half we were averaging over 12 freaking yards a play. We had what, over 300 yards rushing? We needed to scrap that and throw bombs? We have some speed and power backs. It worksdiehardapp18 wrote:Why take shots down the field when your running game is gashing the opposition like they were today. That's when Lamb is best, when his task is just managing the game. Today we used the run to set up the pass and Lamb made some very nice plays. Today was Satterfield offense at its best imoappbio91 wrote: And that was nice. My point is passes longer than 10 or 15 yards are very rare. Lots of long passes on paper because of yards after catch though. Not criticizing Lamb, I like him and I think he does a great job. He is a smart guy and runs our very well.
Lamb is nearing his ceiling in terms of what he can control from a physical aspect and i'm thinking the only thing that can change is the offense. Lamb is smart enough to be given the option to call plays himself at the line, and given a package, I think he should be given free reign to make audibles and adjust routes based on what he see's in presnap reads. If the coaching staff isn't giving him those opportunities then they are wasting his best attribute, in my opinion.

Let's hope they get him in the weight room to bulk up. He could be a real bruiser if he add's some muscle to his frame without losing any speed.AppOrange wrote:Evans looked like a young Steven Jackson the way he runs. Powerful and violent. I can't wait to see him as the years go by.

What in the world gives you any pause that Coach Satterfield and his staff don't already do all they can to maximize each and every player's mental and physical skills?

Just think, Darrynton was our worst rated recruit of his class according to 247. Can't wait to see the rest of the class playericsaid wrote:Let's hope they get him in the weight room to bulk up. I'd forgotten about that. I think something weird happened there, like he was rated higher and they reranked him lower at the last minute for some reason.RollNeers wrote:Just think, Darrynton was our worst rated recruit of his class according to 247. Of course, let's not forget the 2014 rankings, when 247 determined that Gibbs and Moore added literally zero value to our class, and Boggs, Stringer, Stout and TEC weren't much higher: http://appalachianstate.247sports.com/S ... ts/Preview

Re: Lamb performance so far
I've been on the Evans train ever since he came on our radar and I watched his film. I've had him at the top of my personal list of steals from the 2016 class ever since signing day. Not that he didn't have a bunch of offers, since he did. But that we were able to get him to come here. And I think everyone is going to have a few more surprises coming from our current redshirt guys right now when next season rolls around. I'm hearing some great things.

Re: Lamb performance so far
I went back and rewatched everyone's film. I'm beginning to believe that Evans will be a do it all guy, hopefully someone who allows Satt to ramp up the speed of the play calling and get a little more creative with formations while I believe Zac will be the starting QB. He has the strongest arm of all the QB recruits and assuming he's accurate and can shorten his motion a bit, he could be that piece.firemoose wrote:I've been on the Evans train ever since he came on our radar and I watched his film. And let's not forget he chose us in a head-to-head battle with the stink. Remember, Taylor still has his senior season ahead so other qbs may have to wait a cycle unless someone jumps him over the course of the season or in the spring next year.ericsaid wrote:I went back and rewatched everyone's film. Yep, their fans were all over him on Twitter, going on about how he was going to flip to them.AppDawg wrote:And let's not forget he chose us in a head-to-head battle with the stink. Re: Lamb performance so far
It's interesting, some of the best QBs and prospects of today (and ever) came from outside the power conferences. Just looking around the league now, you've got starters from Fresno State, UCF, North Dakota State, Miami (OH), Delaware, Harvard and Eastern Illinois (x2 if you count Romo). Then you look at guys in the past who were stars and/or high draft picks like Warner, Pennington, Leftwich, McNair, Favre, Cunningham, Culpepper, David Carr, etc. And that's not even considering all the guys who were great college players who at least got a cup of coffee in the NFL.CornCobPipes wrote:If we ever get lucky enough to get a Carson Wentz, I promise I'll shut up.
Obviously for every name on that list there are hundreds who never make it. Just seems like there are enough diamonds in the rough out there that a savvy coaching staff (which I think we have) might be able to find a guy with the raw tools to make it big and coach him up.

The defensive linemen we brought in last year are all gonna be studs.

Speaking of d linemen. What is the deal with Pappenheim (sp)? Seems like I saw him late in the ODU game and I think he recorded a tackle.TheMackAttack wrote:firemoose wrote:I've been on the Evans train ever since he came on our radar and I watched his film. He was super raw coming out of high school and is a probably the number six guy on the depth chart behind Fuller, Norwood, Reed, Sims, and Godwin at least. He'll be a player when it's all said and done, but most redshirt freshmen only see limited playing time.
