Re: Beer in KBS
Same here. All went fine. My FULL beer got kicked over, not by an intoxicated person, but a kid. LOL...had to go buy another $7 beer.ASPENSOX wrote:Went to the UL-Lafayette game and purchased a beer. Logistically, it worked fine. Essentially, the concession stand serving ID'ed those purchasing alcohol and provided an arm bracelet. Honestly, while I was in the stadium I didn't witness anyone that was overly intoxicated.

No beer in Blowing Rock (only "bootleg") in the early 60's. Nearest place to get beer was Joe's Place at the Wilkes/Watauga line!!!! Think about it my YOUNG friends.TheMoody1 wrote:You couldn't buy beer or liquor in Blowing Rock? Are you sure that Antlers was not open in Blowing Rock in the 60's ? I know that I went there in the 70's and 80's . Even when they were shutting down PB Scots and other bars in BR, Antlers survived for quite a while.

Re: Beer in KBS
I'm in favor. Went to a game at WVU the first year they allowed alcohol sales and it was pretty cool. Oliver Luck is a smart guy and figured he could turn a good profit rangling $8 a beer out of those hillbillies. I don't think our mountain folk will be any different. We like to drink and watch football. Incidently, I don't think anyone has died during one of their football game since beer sales started.
With regards to safety issues, I think stadium sales might cut down on the level of drunkeness of fans entering the stadium. I understand many on this board don't drink or only have a few. However, this is Appalachian and the reality is that many fans drink early and often on game day. Most students, and a lot of alumni, drink to excess in order to have a sustained buzz throughout the game. This leads to all sorts of public intoxication problems in the early stages of a contest. However, knowing that you can get a beer upon entering KBS might slow the the pregame binge drinking. I think a high dollar price point is going to handcuff people who would look to abuse in game beers and drive down the mountain hammered. Sure there is always the possibility that someone won't mind shelling out 70 bucks to get lit and then gets behind the wheel. But guess what, that person is already drinking Jameson in their morning coffee, beer at tailgate, and Canadian Club mini bottles in a KBS bathroom stall.
We need revenue, and this is one way to get it. Bottom line is that if a Baptist school like Wake is able to pull this off, no reason why we shouldnt be just fine.

On this day in 1933, the prohibition of alcohol ended in the United States. Cheers to the same happening at The Rock for 2015!

Is this something APP can independently do OR does it take approval from the UNC Board? ---

I am merely a second year law student and even upon my (hopeful) admission to the NC Bar, I don't think I'll have much more insight into the UNC BOG.WVAPPeer wrote:Gonzo - I asked a general question before but since you are our reigning legal mind here goes again ---Gonzo wrote:On this day in 1933, the prohibition of alcohol ended in the United States. If I were betting I'd say yes we'll have to ask our massa' for permission.

Re: Beer in KBS
I'm in favor. Keep the beer high quality and local. Charge appropriately. Not many folks are going to get trashed on $8 beers. I'm thinking people against this are simply in denial about amount of drinking that already happens in KBS. If it's going to happen, ASU should get a cut. If you're against it, don't buy it.

I wasn't relating anything to pro sports. You brought that up. My only opinion was relating to KBS.
I just think the increased amount of drinking before heading down the mountain is not a great idea. Not a big deal just answering the original question.
The fact is not everyone is "heading down the mountain" and as others have pointed out, drinkers gonna drink. I think the positives far outweigh any negatives but I do understand why there would be opposition.
All this stirs up Charlie Cobb's bizarre cups and ice debacle.

I've always wondered how many places allow you to come and go. I think the open door policy would actually cut down on fans cutting out early.TheMoody1 wrote:They should also allow you to go out and return at halftime. If Wofford and Clemson can do it so could App.

Re: Beer in KBS
Update:
All of our local breweries are on board, just waiting on Beasley and the Board to process the proposal. Should happen by the end of January. I'll update when I find out more.
Thanks to all of you for your input. Much appreciated.
