My roommates and I who are current seniors at App are going down to the game and we’re wondering if anyone could recommend fun bars/restaurants near Bank of America stadium for pregame. Also could anyone enlighten me as to how the parking situation works? Not necessarily looking to get in the best tailgating lot, more so just looking for somewhere to park fairly close to the stadium. Thanks, Roll Neers
Park in the Sugar Creek park and ride lot and then take the light rail down to the station. That is so easy, likely a bit cheaper than paying for parking, and not pump as much carbon into the air compared to driving all the stop and go traffic downtown. I did this last time we played at BOA and it worked great.

the $$ difference between parking downtown and parking for free at a stop and ride is worth a couple of beers at least.

That would be enough incentive for me on a college budget.

Thats a great incentive. Reducing the amount of “carbon you pump into the air” is a ludicrous and unnecessary thing to mention for two people already carpooling from Boone.
Seems like all the more reason to take the light rail.

This is a football thread. 99% of people reading this don't care to engage a climate agenda here.

Pregame:
"The French Quarter" (colloquially the name of the entire strip of bars although "French Quarter" is the name of one of the actual bars in the alley) is my favorite pre-game spot for games at BOA. It's just across Church St from Romare Bearden Park. Very fun area. You can walk around with open containers, it's like a small alley that leads into Latta Arcade, which contains some small restaurants. An absolute must-go for a group of 21-22 year olds who have never been to a game uptown. They added a ton of outdoor TVs recently. It's incredible. The only time it isn't the most fun option in the area is if it's too crowded.

I'm not sure if it will be open for a non-Panther's game, but Dog House is right on the other side of Morehead from the stadium. Another fun spot.

There's a brewery a little further back towards South End near Dog House called Hopfly that's decent.

On the other side of the stadium (away from the city) is a bar called Clutch that's decent and pretty popular. It's just completely isolated so if you were looking to pop around and see a lot, I don't think going there would be very efficient.

Parking:
There are dozens of lots that will be between $20-80 per car, depending on proximity. You can find some cheap spots to park if you don't mind scootering or ubering to the BOA Stadium area. If you're staying the night Friday night I highly recommend grabbing a lyft instead of parking uptown.

If you must park uptown for the game, this lot (667 W 4th St, Charlotte, NC 28202 -- google maps calls it "Preferred Parking Lot # 705 E. Trade) is the best value, IMO. Before my kids were born we tailgated for the Panthers games for many years and this was by far the cheapest I found this close to the stadium. There's a little path next to the Panther's practice facility that makes it a 5 mins walk. I bet it's $30 for a game like this, but I'm not sure.

that is a problem to be sure as it does add up in totality.

every little bit helps as far as carbon reduction though the drive from Boone to Charlotte is clearly a bigger part than driving from the city limits to downtown.

every bit helps. i was going to suggest the mountaineer express but the time back to Boone is a morning time. taking city transit for the last few miles is always good to support as well, even in the buses are pumping out carbon. that light rail is a lot less stressful than driving and finding parking.

Any chance they are going to open the upper deck? I am not going to pay $75 plus to sit in the endzone.

The issue with the Light Rail (especially heading north) is the post game wait. Assuming Charlotte students attend the game (and that's 50/50 at best), there could be a long wait getting back. If you are not tailgating, there are plenty of garages within a 10 minute walk of BOA

That could happen. But a lot of people can fit on one train, and they can run trains a bit more often.
