Re: Game discussion
Solid showing tonight. First half was beautiful football. I do wish we could put together a more complete 60 minutes (or at least 45) offensively. I don't think it's by design either - we were still throwing the ball downfield some in the second half, the execution just wasn't there. Plus Satt hasn't seemed to mind pouring it on the past couple years against Ga. State, ODU, Troy, ULM, etc.
Defense looks like men vs. boys right now.

Re: Game discussion
I really don't think this was a case of "coasting" as much as it was a case of "healing." We have several key players banged up and now the subs are getting dinged. We got a little more conservative but didn't completely close the playbook. What we did was sit Moore down after he went down. We can't risk him getting injured. We were playing our 3rd and 4th RBs. We also went deep on the depth chart on receiver where we've also had injuries. UL is not an FCS team and they tightened up the pass coverage once we pulled our stud RB.
This was a solid win. Let's get ready and take care of Idaho.

Re: Game discussion
Not at all unhappy with the win. The defense was impressive, no turnovers but 5 sacks. I would take a win like this every time. I understand that you approach the 2nd half differently when up 24 points. I was just disappointed in our execution. Scott mentioned on the post game that we didn't play that well offensively in the 2nd half. I must admit the first half was as good as we've seen this season, especially missing as many parts as we were. Good to see Taylor and Shaedon connecting as they did.CVAPP wrote:Yep, 24 points wasn't enough and our D bleed out. Twas another shameful win. And yes, if it meant getting the shutout, I would take no points from us in the 2nd half.

While app has played really well in conference, why don't we win a conference title before we go all we are sooo much better then everyone?/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote:People people people. Troy is the AState this year and GSU will be ready for us. I'll say we are above the competition when we beat them both.

I agree. Those two games will be much more competitive, but the other 75% of the games through my eyes, are equivalent to us beating up on SoCon foes. I am not ignorant to think the SoCon is a stronger conference than the Sun Belt, but from a fan/viewers perspective games like the last two and likely next weeks show our dominance in the Sun Belt.Rekdiver wrote:Troy is the AState this year and GSU will be ready for us. The ESPN guys said it best. Many including myself expected us to come into the SunBelt and struggle the first few years. We were able to out recruit most if not all of the conference in recent years, and as a result we've exceeded expectations. Maybe that's my mentality? I wasn't expecting this our first few years.

Re: Game discussion
The fan who posted "he would rather be playing Furman than ULL", is humorous to me. If we were playing Furman it would be 60 to 0, and somehow that is a better game? The Sun Belt is a step up in talent vs what we faced in FCS. Now I think what he was meaning is that the rivalries were better in the Socon, cause all of us knew people or had friends at the opposing schools that we played such as Western and Furman. Its going to take time but rivalries will develop and we are working on playing those closer schools such as Wake Forest, ECU and maybe NCState. All of those schools will draw enormous crowds. Don't look back to the FCS, our future ahead is much brighter!

With all due respect, no way was the bowl game more fun than winning the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. Are you kidding?appbio91 wrote:ULL has a great program. We soon get a conference championship game. No way I would go back. I have to say the bowl game last year was every bit as fun and got us more coverage on ESPN than any of the NC. The NC's were awesome and I would not minimize them at all but this is our reality now. I'm sorry but the football is so much better. This team would destroy any of our NC teams. We are so much bigger and deeper. I get missing the rivalry but we are developing some good ones with stAte and GASt reminds me of Elon, they want to beat us so bad. This is good and it is where we belong right now.

Re: Game discussion
Wow, a few still holding on to the SOCON. We conquered that mountain x100, and moved on to new challenges, which we needed. Our goals now, our first conference championship, and try to go undefeated and make a major bowl, it will happen one day and be amazing. We just won by 2 scores, at home against an average SB team. We are not above this conference yet, lots of tough games ahead, hell we could loose 2 imo. There are always haves and haves not in any conference, the SB is no different, and imo getting stronger as a whole.

Re: Game discussion
I think the point, the poster is trying to make is these games lack any sort of rivalry or intensity. And that is partly because we aren't rivals to these schools and partly because they don't seem to care either. The game last night felt like a scrimmage. I understand the games will get tougher soon, it just sucks we get on national tv on the road against a team that has mailed it in. But you never know that when you make the schedule. The bigger problem is why we cannot get a complete offensive effort out of this team.

Can some of the people who post on here just switch to pulling for WCU and leave us alone?
Every single team in the SBC would win the SoCon. This league isn't even the worst G5 league any more.

The National Championships were a blast!, I went to 05 and 06 and wouldn't exchange them for anything, but outside of FCS nobody really pays attention to them, people know us more for the Michigan game than anything else. And going to the bowl game this past year, the town of Montgomery did an outstanding job of showcasing their town, much better than Chattanooga. That Bowl game was a blast !! Looking forward to the Bowl game this year, wherever its at.

Are we really as undersized on the defensive front as announcers claim. That one guy said this was the most undersized group he had seen all year.

Re: Game discussion
How about our depth at RB and pretty much every position on defense last night? Really too many to name, but we have some players at backup LB, DE, and S.
Lamb played much better in the first half and put balls in great spots for our WRs. In the second half he threw a couple balls behind the WR, and Satt was still coaching him hard which was great to see. Lamb is a zone killer and I was surprised to see ULL stay in it so long.
Best play of the game was Moore's long TD run and I really liked seeing Colmar throw that last block to spring him.
Sims and Reed are awesome together. Our defense works when we create pressure.

Re: Game discussion
The Championship games were really cool. For me it was that we had won a real playoff and there was an ultimate culmination to the season. Now some of view the pinnacle as playing in the NY6 game. To get there we have to play and knock off probably 2 P5 teams. For this year that dream is gone. We ran off an impressive string of SOCON championships and reached a point where we needed a challenge. As indicated last night we are 21-4 over our last 25 games. That is amazing. What do we really have to do to say we are dominant in the SB? Win every game by 50? We only beat Ga St by 2 scores so that isn't dominant? As far as conferences go I see some dogs in every G5 so there is crap everywhere. I can see part of the SOCON point. We had the ability to travel to nearly every opponents place and when they came to Boone there was often a decent contingent. We had years where we would lose to a Wofferd or other schools. Obviously now we would stomp all of them. I guess some folks won't be content until we move to the SEC and whip Alabama every year. Do I like the Funbelt? Hell no. Hopefully this is temporary and maybe soon we might be in one of the hypothetical conferences we knock around.

I dream of the day our fanbase can stick to a game discussion topic and not piss all over our history or our present state.
We have A LOT to be excited about with this current team and our future in the FBS, start acting like.
