Re: Recruiting, 2014
No offense man, but if they haven't offered him by now, then they probably aren't going to.
we've already got 3 LB commits and 4 DE/DL commits. so, unless one of them decommits, he probably won't get one

Re: Recruiting, 2014
The staff is fully aware of Blue but as MtnJax stated we are very full at both LB and DL right now. The only LB that was jacking us around was Harley. The others committed early and have shown no sign of wavering. Neither have any of the DL commits, two of which could play either DE or OLB. We have some areas of critical need right now to solidify this class. WR and RB being the two most important with Safety a close second and NT also in the mix should one pop up. The staff loves Blue but we've got Canty and Hopkins holding two commits that are very liquid at the moment and it looks like they will be, at least with Canty, until just a couple of days before signing day.ASU@RDU wrote:Still more awards for performance on the field and in classroom for Sam Blue of Millbrook. He was named Scholar Athlete of Week from Raleigh N&O paper. 4.2 GPA, AP courses with college credit, captain of 3 different team sports at Millbrook that have all gone to NC state playoffs in each sport. (Football, basketball and track). NC High School All Time Sack leader with 19 sac and 5 where returned for TD's. Rave recommendations from his AD and Coaches about being the complete student athlete a leader in classroom and on the field. 6'1" 225lbs with a frame that can put 20-25 more lbs. He played DL at Millbrook because they needed him there to win but will transition to LB in college.
Yet, we sit there and watch others offer him and he would go to ASU if offered and willing to redshirt and pay his dues. I sometimes think if this kid had same stats from SC or Ga. we would be all over him and bragging we stole one from those two states. Not every kid we recruit will start and many will not workout and can become a problem on the bench or in the public eye. This is not one of those kids. He will earn his way on the field and will make you proud of what he does in the public, classroom and playing football. Plus, he is a NC kid from the Raleigh area and could lead to other great kids and athletes down here.
While other LB's with offers seem to be jacking us around, the school should offer him now. We will be a better program for having him and his family at Boone.
I like Sam Blue as much as anyone and I know the staff does also. I was kind of hoping with Harley committing to USF that we might use that to offer Blue but it hasn't happened yet. I think they are trying to gage where Rollins stands to see if we need any more offers to RB to go out. There is a good chance that he will get his offer but we have to address other areas first that we can't afford to go into signing day without someone. It's a rough time but we have to look at the fact that we could get to the 5th with only one WR and one or even no RB's. We can't bring in 4 LB and 4 DL commits and have that happen. It's a game of numbers right now and we've got a couple of players holding all the cards. I know what I would do but I'm not a coach. Time will tell.
Re: Recruiting, 2014
Moose - hope you are going to the recruit introduction App State will have because believe you will know them better than any one coach.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Everybody has a local favorite that could/should get an offer from ASU.
I suggested the LAST staff to look at two kids during their sophmore years: Mark Harrell and Elijah Hood. You could tell they were going to be special. But then again I have local blinders on. Turned out they were special though and maybe the previous staff didnt think we had a shot at them. Mark is a 305 lb guard at Notre Dame and Hood (whose dad played at WCU) was Army's National Player of the Year this year. Didnt get so much as a peep from any coach and Speir's brother did attend a game where Hood was playing as a Soph........but no love from APP....and I emphasize this was the previous coaching staff. I guess it happens, you can't get to eveybody!

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Anybody at the FCS level would have been foolish to spend time and more importantly money recruiting those two athletes. It's OK to occasionally shoot for the moon on a recruit or two, but those two -- especially Hood -- are in another galaxy. Recruiting is expensive. There's no point in throwing money away needlessly.Rekdiver wrote:Everybody has a local favorite that could/should get an offer from ASU.

I am glad you started this...as I have said it in the past and probably on the original 2014 thread....There is a major lack of NC representation on this list of offers. This happened a few years ago....was corrected and got better.....now we "seem" to be headed down that path again....We do not "seem" interested in NC targets to the extent we should...IMO!ASU@RDU wrote:...Yet, we sit there and watch others offer him and he would go to ASU if offered and willing to redshirt and pay his dues. This is because our former staff neglected NC and it will take a new staff some time to rebuild that bridge.

Yep. Satt has said they are going to make it a point to get back into NC high schools. but like you said, they have to rebuild those relationships with the coaches and that could take a couple of yearsRekdiver wrote:This is because our former staff neglected NC and it will take a new staff some time to rebuild that bridge.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
There was a time, asutrnr81, when I shared your belief that football players at North Carolina high schools were under-recruited. But that changed after I started looking at film ... and I've looked at lots of film. There's an undeniable difference, especially when you compare them to players from Florida, Georgia, Texas and even South Carolina. The speed of the game is different. The players are more likely to be college-sized, they're stronger and there are fewer jelly-bellies on the line. The skill players are, well, more skillful. I know generalizations are often unfair and there are notable standouts from our state (Julius Peppers, Keenan Allen, Todd Gurley and Elijah Hood quickly come to mind), but generally the talent here pales in comparison to some other states in the South. When you couple that with the fact that we now have seven Division I football programs in North Carolina, it's little wonder we recruit so heavily in Georgia and Florida.asutrnr81 wrote:I am glad you started this...as I have said it in the past and probably on the original 2014 thread....There is a major lack of NC representation on this list of offers. Re: Recruiting, 2014
All things being equal, I'm sure we'd all love to see as many NC players as possible on App's roster. But the first priority is to get the best recruits possible, and the numbers simply don't favor in-state kids.
Georgia has a deeper pool of talent and only two BCS programs. Virginia and SC have comparable talent pools and only two BCS schools each. Everyone recruits in Florida, obviously, but there's so much talent there that you have to recruit there if you're a Southeastern program.
With in-state recruits, we're basically counting on all four ACC schools to misevaluate a kid, and probably ECU as well. We can get a few that way, but not enough to build a winner.

You are correct. And Commit WR Deltron Hopkins had a teammate flip to Texas Tech today and now Hopkins is saying he is going to visit Lubbock.boonetown1 wrote:Shaedon Meadors WR gets offer from Wake Forest

We'll just see what happens.
The staff has done a great job to get to this point. To have the top rated class in the SunBelt with less than a month until signing day is amazing for a transitional program and also to be in the top 5 of all the other G5's except the AAC should make a lot of schools take notice. The hardest part is going to be staying here. Good luck to the staff and here's to a STRONG finish.

Re: Recruiting, 2014
Just as a point of reference; this year we have offered, so far, 29 kids from NC. 2 have committed to us. 1 is still outstanding, and the other 26 have committed elsewhere, all to FBS schools. 14 to ACC schools, 6 to other BCS schools, 2 to AAC schools, and only 4 are in our peer group (2 to UNCC, 1 to Ga State, and 1 to ODU). And the two for UNCC are from Charlotte and Monroe. These are just the facts.asutrnr81 wrote:I am glad you started this...as I have said it in the past and probably on the original 2014 thread....There is a major lack of NC representation on this list of offers. While there is no doubt that we offer more in other states than in NC and we all know that the staff has said they are going to try and change that with time, a percentage rate of around 7% commits/offers (as a comparison our rate for GA is around 20% so far) shows that getting NC kids is more difficult with all the other schools, BCS and FBS, in and close to the state. You go where you have the best chance of picking up commits and right now the odds are better in other states.

James Franklin leaving Vandy for Penn State. hopefully this throws a wrench in Canty's interest in going there.
Frankling leaving also makes their DC Brent Pry turning down GaSo make more sense. I imagine he might be the top candidate

I do not engage in Twitter so I was wondering if the recent coaching change at Vandy has swayed young Mr. Canty from visiting?
