What happened to the 'Anyone! Anywhere!' mindset??
Let's relax until we see what Gillen has negotiated. He's hit home runs in the past, I think we owe him some confidence.

Yep. Fundamentals of economics and marketing.AppDawg wrote:Where did this notion come from that we have to set aside 1/3 of our stadium for the other team. Guess homefield advantage has gone out the window. Give them 5k tix if they sell them out great! If we have remaining availability left after our fans have purchased we'll throw some their way.
The Miami game this year, Wake next and Marshall soon after should go a long way to put to bed this concept.

Re: ECU vs APP
Just this week, ECU issued a BIG XII statement. This speaks to how they regard themselves in the landscape of scheduling. Is a 2-1-1 perfect? Naw, but we have 4 chances to beat them twice and make some noise. If we were to bear them in CLT, it would go much further (media wise) than beating them in Greenville or Boone.

Exactly. I'm sure a decent amount of Charlotte media that doesn't typically cover App, would.bigCasu wrote:Just this week, ECU issued a BIG XII statement. Re: ECU vs APP
The only way the neutral site is okay in my book is if we still pull off 6 home games. The neutral site game would need to replace the guaranteed money P5 game we're used to having. Would ECU in BoA Stadium do it? No idea.
The model very well could be:
Home:
4 conference
1 G5 OOC
1 FCS
1 neutral site
Away:
1 G5 OOC
4 Conference

Listened to several experts all last week on Sirius/XM College Sports channel and never heard ECU mentioned once as a legitimate candidate for the Big 12.bigCasu wrote:Just this week, ECU issued a BIG XII statement. Re: ECU vs APP
I'll say it again, I don't have any issue with playing App St, especially if we're going to schedule other Sun Belt, C-USA, and Mac opponents. However, in the past 10 years our OOC schedule has consisted of mostly P5 teams. The only G5s we have scheduled are Navy and BYU who are both national programs. We have had a few FCS in recent years due to unbalanced series with South Carolina and Florida.
When you're fighting for exposure/branding and revenue we need as many P5s as we can get, no one knows what the future holds for college football. Unfortunately everyday is a fight for relevance/survival. We should be playing an exclusively all P5 OOC schedule if at all possible.
05, Duke, WF, and WVU
06, Navy, WVU, UVA, and NCSU
07, VA Tech, UNC, WVU, NCSU
08, VA Tech, WVU, NCSU, UVA
09, App St, WVU, UNC, VA Tech
10, VA Tech, UNC, NCSU, Navy
11, SC, Va Tech, UNC, Navy
12, App St, SC, UNC, Navy
13, ODU, VA Tech, UNC, NCSU
14, NCCU, SC, VA Tech, UNC
15, Towson, Florida, BYU, Va Tech
16, Western Carolina, NCSU, SC, and Va Tech
Most of our fans over the years were already not happy with adding an FCS team over the years. Maybe the reality of our situation has changed and it's forced our hands with the unbalanced SEC series. It doesn't change the fact that adding any G5 to those schedules not named BYU, Boise St, or previously Navy, would be viewed as a downgrade. That's not to say App St, can't play, we all know they can. Unfortunately right now we're fighting for our college football lives.
Our schedule isn't dodging anyone, in fact if we had 2 sure wins OOC like most teams have we would have at minimum 3-4 more double digit win seasons over the last decade.

Re: ECU vs APP
The problem is we severely limit the number of opponents that are willing to come to Boone if we can't offer a decent amount of tickets to them. We were fortunate to get Miami and Wake as they won't travel as well as many, but even then Miami still demanded over double the number of visitor tickets we normally give. When these games are negotiated one of the big factors is seating available to the other teams fans. If we say you can only have 2,000 then a lot of teams are going to walk. We all want the best teams possible coming to Boone so to do that we have to be able to accommodate their fans. Playing those games in Boone will also increase demand for App football overall which will drive up ticket sales for all games.EastHallApp wrote:Yep. You understand that 2 of those P5 games every year as legally obligated to be on your schedule, right? I wonder how different the OOC schedule would look if UNC-CHeat and Moo-U were not REQUIRED BY LAW to play EZU?oasispirate wrote:I'll say it again, I don't have any issue with playing App St, especially if we're going to schedule other Sun Belt, C-USA, and Mac opponents. That's not really true, there was a bill that was threatened in the mid 90s, but that never actually happened.MtnDevil95 wrote:You understand that 2 of those P5 games every year as legally obligated to be on your schedule, right? Re: ECU vs APP
So I found this article. In 2011 the Big 12 required a visiting allotment of 4,000 seats. The SEC 7,000. Can't imagine those numbers have changed too awful much. Further, if I recall correctly, there was an article on AppStSports and Gillin said we allotted Miami 5,000. If true, we are already there.JTApps1 wrote:The problem is we severely limit the number of opponents that are willing to come to Boone if we can't offer a decent amount of tickets to them. Re: ECU vs APP
How is this awful? A FBS team from the west playing an FBS team from the east, and both teams are in the state of NC. I have wanted this game for years, and the two in Greenville is the price of playing an AAC team or any FBS team for that matter. The game in Charlotte is the right move for the program, if true. This puts us in a the prime seat of recruiting to showcase the university and the program to a broader audience.3rd wrote:Aweful just aweful if this comes true.

moehler wrote:I still stand by my original statement, but out of curiosity, I went to the ECU 247 site, to see how they feel about this; what a bunch of ass@#@$@, their running their mouths about not only having to play in Boone and Charlotte, but having to play us in general, you would think that they we're a top ten program. The funny thing is, they have been complaining for years that NC and State wouldn't travel to Greenville, and how unfair it was to them to be treated as a second hand citizen, now, their doing the exact same thing to us, what a bunch of hypocrites
Not really the same imo, NCSU and UNC were routinely scheduling teams of our "ilk"/peer group and dodging us. As posted above, you can't say that as it relates to ECU and App St. If we were out there scheduling Middle Tn, GA Southern, and Miami OH on a regular basis you would have an argument, but we don't. Typically we are scheduling mid level P5 teams at a minimum.
As to Charlotte, we have played 5 games there since 1996. NCSU 96 Win, WVU 99 Win, NCSU 04 Loss, VA Tech 08 Win, and SC 10 Loss. I'm not sure what those games have done for us other than a paycheck. Good success there, I can't say it's really equated to more exposure/recruiting success in Charlotte. I think ECU fans are over that experience, minus the Charlotte alumni that live in the area.

Fact check for ECU scheduling G5 peers:
ECU scheduled:
ODU 2018 and 2019 H&H
Marshall 2020 and 2021 H&H
So yes it is the same.

So those are new series, and I think you will fine that most ECU fans were unhappy with those series as well.

Re: ECU vs APP
You are playing an FCS team for the sixth straight year so if you replace that game with us you're improving your schedule regardless of venue. It will also be more difficult to get 3 P5 teams a year with all of those leagues making a push to play more OOC games against other P5's. Besides, it is a bit hypocritical of Pirate fans to expect multiple P5 schools to play ECU and make trips to Greenville, but then balk at the idea of a similar request from an in-state G5 school.oasispirate wrote:I'll say it again, I don't have any issue with playing App St, especially if we're going to schedule other Sun Belt, C-USA, and Mac opponents. Re: ECU vs APP
No it's not the right move a half empty stadium while paying to play in, taking away home field advantage and also taking the game away from students. ECU and App should play every year IMO and it should be at each campus both fan bases are passionate and have awesome gameday atmospheres. Let each fan base show off their gameday and town to the rest of a state.WVAppsfan wrote:How is this awful?
