G5 territory - I expected weekday games for conference games, not non-conference.

Re: Sunbelt Football Conference Schedule delayed
Love everyone blaming the Sunbelt conference affiliation and g5 for the issue. I guess we could always move to the ACC where this doesn't happen. Oh wait, Miami is in the ACC and a multi D1 national champion. Nevermind

Re: Sunbelt Football Conference Schedule delayed
Should have researched last year's Thursday and Friday night games before my statement. I will be humble and eat crow for the territory comment.
I do want to point out though that the reason most care about the week day games for App is because we want to be able to attend the games. P5 schools don't have that issue, because their local fan base is much larger than Boone. They also live the national exposure to their nationwide fans. P5 schools are also usually placed on ESPN or ESPN 2. Whereas we are placed on ESPNU. I think the frustrating part for many is changing their plans, or not being able to make it at all. Hopefully Miami can pull some weight and have us featured on 1 or 2 and not the U.
Miami will look at this game as an opportunity for exposure without fighting for air time on the crowded Saturday. Although we will welcome the exposure, it means more to App fan base to be able to attend the games. No matter what day it's on I will be there no doubt.

I will never attend a game on a Friday night. That is high school period.

Re: Sunbelt Football Conference Schedule delayed
As Patch said this isn't a G5 problem it is an ESPN problem. Conferences sold their souls to the mother ship in order to get all that TV cash, but now ESPN has so many channels and the online content that they need more content. The content everyone wants is college football so that is what ESPN is going to give them. It is a double edged sword, but not unexpected for any successful FBS team.
I would much rather have Miami on Saturday for all the reason already mentioned, but Friday is better than Thursday for the majority of our fan base. I just hope the Sun Belt doesn't give us 2 mid-week home games ever again.

Re: Sunbelt Football Conference Schedule delayed
This is the biggest home game in App history. How many FBS national champions have we ever hosted before? I live in Colorado and if it's a Tuesday morning game you better believe my butt will be in the Brewer. Now if you have a kid playing high school ball or in the high school band for a home game I totally get the absence. But people having to work on Fridays is a very slight inconvenience. We have six months t0ahead to plan for maybe a single Friday to leave work early take a vacation day or get a shift trade. I work mon-Friday and will have to leave a day earlier, so what, 6 months out till the biggest home game ever. I'll figure it out.

Kids playing high school ball are some of the more important people we want in the stadium for that game.ASUPATCH wrote:This is the biggest home game in App history. I seriously doubt that Miami is looking at a Friday night game vs. App State as a chance for "exposure."/\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: Miami will look at this game as an opportunity for exposure without fighting for air time on the crowded Saturday. Re: Sunbelt Football Conference Schedule delayed
The high schools also need the income lost by fans not showing up. No collage should EVER play on a Friday night. I would encourage high school coaches to shun any school that does. This is my hot button. I busted my ass to get a high school program started in a new school in Raleigh, and I along with a number of parents busted our ass to sustain it. We don't have ESPN to pay the bills. Leave Friday night the hell alone! Without those high school programs we have nothing. We owe them a debt and playing on Friday night is no way to pay it.EastHallApp wrote:Kids playing high school ball are some of the more important people we want in the stadium for that game.ASUPATCH wrote:This is the biggest home game in App history. Re: Sunbelt Football Conference Schedule delayed
I had one more email from the conference commissioner and he indicated that the game could be a day or night event. He said wait until 3:00, we will be happy. He is a stand up guy by the way.

Saturday sounds great. We would have a ton of high school players there. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the info.WVAppsfan wrote:I had one more email from the conference commissioner and he indicated that the game could be a day or night event. He said wait until 3:00, we will be happy. Re: Sunbelt Football Conference Schedule delayed
I get the cant get recruits to the games. But hurting he football is crazy. Maybe 8-10 fans at App games attends football. From multiple states. So on average you might hurt each high school by what 2-3 ticket sales. Not buying that argument at all.

You don't have to buy anything as I am not selling. I am making a statement of fact. Collage football on Friday night is not good for high school football. Just ask a high school coach how they feel about it.ASUPATCH wrote:I get the cant get recruits to the games. But hurting he football is crazy. Maybe 8-10 fans at App games attends football. I think it's well established they don't like it, but I think Patch makes a good point, at least in this case, that the perceived harm would be much greater than reality, other than maybe for Watauga HS.bcoach wrote:You don't have to buy anything as I am not selling. However, perception matters, because if we piss off HS coaches, it won't matter whether they're blowing it out of proportion or not - we'll still be on their bad side, after we've spent the past few years trying to convince them that we don't hate in-state recruits.

Re: Sunbelt Football Conference Schedule delayed
We just need this schedule to come out already. I am very anxious, and know I will have to wait until 3 which is killing me internally. Mainly because I had March 1 circles (Literally) on my calendar.

The broader point though is that we do not exist in a vacuum. ALL of collage football should be saying no. It is just plain bad for high school football. We should also be very concerned about Watauga high school.EastHallApp wrote:I think it's well established they don't like it, but I think Patch makes a good point, at least in this case, that the perceived harm would be much greater than reality, other than maybe for Watauga HS.bcoach wrote:You don't have to buy anything as I am not selling. Re: Sunbelt Football Conference Schedule delayed
I don't like playing on Friday any more than you, but lets not act like this would be an App problem. Tons of colleges play on Friday now. I remember how many people made us out to be the bad guy in 2008 yet I never hear a word about how awful it is for an ACC school to play on Friday.bcoach wrote:You don't have to buy anything as I am not selling. Blame TV not the schools.
