Equipment truck
Re: Equipment truck
I know we are in great hands with Gillian, and our time will come, but right now its tough to watch our fellow SBC brothers adding and improving their stadiums, riding around in beautiful semi trucks, and we have....a pup truck, guess I'm alittle jealous, good thing is I know once we start spending the money we are going to put the rest of the league to shame, atleast I hope so.

I couldn't agree less. Not about Gillian, just the rest of your post.moehler wrote:I know we are in great hands with Gillian, and our time will come, but right now its tough to watch our fellow SBC brothers adding and improving their stadiums, riding around in beautiful semi trucks, and we have....a pup truck, guess I'm alittle jealous, good thing is I know once we start spending the money we are going to put the rest of the league to shame, atleast I hope so.

Re: Equipment truck
You know it doesn't bother me that all the other schools have a big truck with their name on the side. It will travel mostly at night so who the hell is going to see it. If you want something to be seen put up a billboard on i77 and I 85. More people will see that than a truck at midnight plus nobody at the opposing school is going to say " boy does App State have a nice truck". But then again our conference just might appreciate a good truck. "Hey Larry, what's she got underthe hood"?

Regarding the big flashy trucks... all I see is little-football team syndrome. We don't need to compensate for anything. The team speaks for itself.

Georgia Southern is taking their smaller equipment truck to Idaho. It left Monday night. After the game, it'll go straight to Monroe, LA where they play next weekend.

As I understand it, all of the separate features of the forum have to be integrated and activated one at a time. Yosef is working through them as he has time. He indicated it would take several days to get all features restored and working. Rep points will be back as soon as he works through a long list of geeky stuff that has to take place behind the scenes. I'm sure we'll appreciate him even more when the improvements can be seen in-total.Rekdiver wrote:I guess rep points went away?

Re: Equipment truck
Folks, I don't quite understand the sudden obsession on fancy-dan Freightliner rigs. Doug Gillin has said over-and-over that he will spend the remainder of this fiscal year--through June 30--doing a thorough needs assessment and structuring a master plan for athletics.
I can almost 100 percent guarantee that it's not a need so all-encompassing that we'll be looking at making an acquisition in the middle of the football season. Not gonna do it now. Ain't happenin'... Y'all get over it. In AppState's and in Gillin's big picture, this issue is a mole hill, not a mountain.

Re: Equipment truck
Business liabilities are depreciated over time and then turned into assets on the books. No idea what our current box truck cost us...let's just take a wild guess and say $75k, and now that it's a couple years old we're down to $25k. Which means, that truck is still costing ASU money. One day it will hit 0. At which point we can keep the truck, sell the truck, whatever, and not lose money...turning it into a financial asset. So long as the truck isn't costing us absorbitant maintenance or operating costs ASU does not NEED a new one. A flashy semi looks good, makes us all feel good, but isn't necessary.

Re: Equipment truck
We could just go down to the Ryder store and rent a truck, but the local rate might kill us on round trip to Idaho.

I'm sure we'd get a discount if we promised to bring back a sack of famous idaho potatoes.AppinVA wrote:We could just go down to the Ryder store and rent a truck, but the local rate might kill us on round trip to Idaho.

This is where you'll have to settle for a New App "RP", for now.APPdiesel wrote:I'm sure we'd get a discount if we promised to bring back a sack of famous idaho potatoes.AppinVA wrote:We could just go down to the Ryder store and rent a truck, but the local rate might kill us on round trip to Idaho.

Re: Equipment truck
You also have to look at the cost per mile of a semi VS the box truck. That number includes but is not limited to, tolls, tires, fuel, insurance, maintenance, experienced driver,( yes big difference in drivers) etc. Unless we really need the extra space and it looks like we don't, I see one of the worst investments we could possibly make at this point in time.

Well said. I don't understand this obsession either. Most people wouldn't have any idea what kind of truck we had if someone hadn't posted a thread about it. Suddenly it becomes a "must have."asu66 wrote:Folks, I don't quite understand the sudden obsession on fancy-dan Freightliner rigs. Yeah, going through this I think it's fair to say that the correlation between how fancy the hauler is and how good the team is is pretty weak. Among G5 schools, I notice that WKU has a box truck and Utah State uses a freakin horse trailer. UNCC, meanwhile, has a nice semi.Dmanuhone wrote:My thoughts were with the added roster, coaches, etc a larger truck would be needed. I guess not.

App's official school motto is the same as North Carolina's: Esse Quam Videri. "To be, rather than to seem." We don't need a truck to make us seem like contenders. We need to be contenders.

Like it or not we are compared with peer institutions like GaSo, but I doubt the size of our equipment truck blips the radar in that regard. Spend that money on removing the track and eventually adding seats and enhancements to KBS.

Re: Equipment truck
Seems some people have the mentality that we are considered a "small time program" if we don't have a glossed up semi rollin down the road. That doesn't make us inferior to any program, especially when we are kicking that ass up and down the field.
