To answer your question we can’t stop anyone and you don’t go to a championship game playing “ole”.
This defense is indefensable.

If app has another beat down this season, it’s time for a HC change. I honestly don’t see us winning any more games from what I’ve seen vs Clemson and SoAla.

I don't think it's that bad, I'd say 6-6 and a minor bowl game.

Tre Lamb would be a lazy and terrible hire? Learning on the job? What are you talking about?Pikapp79 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 12:56 pmericsaid wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 10:41 amCareful what you wish for. That’s not meant to be a statement of support of the season’s progress but rather a look at the body of work. It may be beneath previous standards but I wouldn’t describe the entirety of his tenure as mediocre.
If App fires Clark and hires the wrong replacement, you all haven’t seen anything yet.
The only option, in my opinion, is Ponce or Tre Lamb. I’d like to see what Ponce could do running a program considering his demeanor, his ability to scout talent out of the dirt, and his now commitment to App. I don’t know at what point you become an “App guy” but he’s been around longer than any student and player would be so that shouldn’t be an issue.
Tre Lamb is obvious. He played App to 28 points, had a close game in 2023, and should have beaten a good NDSU team this year with a team that was utter garbage just a year ago. He is the young, driven, forward thinking mind you need for a program like App. He is also relatively new to the point that it would take three years before a P4 program trusted him to take over.
Lamb would be a lazy and terrible choice. We don’t need a guy learning on the job even if he is a fan favorite. Now go and prove yourself at a lower level program and the scenario may be different.
He would be learning FBS coaching, for sure, but he’s got his chops, he’s got the lineage, he’s got the name, and he’s got the familiarity. Lamb took an awful team in ETSU and had NDSU beat, until football stuff happened with 2 minutes left. The talent gap between ETSU and NDSU is massive so even being up by 12 with less than five minutes to go is a huge accomplishment.
He built Gardner-Webb from a doormat of FCS to now a perennial playoff contender that has maintained some success, playing JMU to a 13-6 game just two weeks ago.
So not only can he build programs, he can lay a foundation that can be carried on. You may disagree all you want, but if there is one benefit to life as an untalented individual, you see talent in others. Hiring Lamb would be a great decision for App.

It’s a brainstorming idea called “throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks” or “the noodle game”. Out of a number of ideas, especially in forums such as this one, some good ideas will result.hapapp wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 11:55 amI didn't express any wishes. To suggest it has to be one of two people is absurd.ericsaid wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 10:41 amCareful what you wish for. I am not the AD. I am not the BOT. What I say doesn’t matter. But, to me, I think you would be stupid to ignore Lamb and Ponce in the hiring process.

Re: What's the Excuse Now?
Unlike many on here, I am not really impressed with Tre Lamb. I don't consider close losses to be an indication of a good coach. Yes he got Gardner Webb to be in the ever expanding FCS playoffs from the Big South which isn't really much of an accomplishment to me. And I would hardly give him credit for GW's current team considering he took 28 players with him to ETSU, not sure you can call what remained a good foundation of a team. I call that dismantling a team in my book. Let him prove himself in the depleted SoCon and advance in the playoffs for a few years and I might change my mind but right now he is a hard no for me.

Re: What's the Excuse Now?
Tre Lamb would be a Dustin Kerns type hire. Both overachieved at smaller programs with a lot less talent than their peers. If Clark goes, he has to get a look.
