Must not have been too shabby to have gotten a second round draft pick. Evidently the NFL thought more of him than you and a couple other guys did. Sports Illustrated thought enough of him to put him on the front cover by himself. Still got my copy.
Of course he got on the front cover because those two touchdowns he scored against Michigan were huge. Jackson had elite speed and nobody could catch him that day.

Jackson was a prime example of a classic bust. A NFL team fell in love with an iconic performance in one game against a FBS program by a FCS player and then the 4.3 40 that followed at the combine. Gruden fell in love with the speed but Jackson never worked on his craft to become a route runner and Gruden did not use his speed in the return game like he should have.

He was a bust in Tampa who got cut early on and got chances with Panthers and Jets but never could latch on. When you are a top 100 pick you will get 2-3 chances after you get cut, which he did. Proof: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dexter_Ja ... _receiver)

4.3 speed will beat Michigan and even put up All-Conf numbers in FCS but it won't guarantee you a NFL career.

Go watch the 2007 season in full and you will see I'm 100% right. I actually wish someone could prove me wrong on this because I truly felt if Jackson had the impact of a 2nd round pick for us that we should have gone undefeated that year. He had plenty of fumbles and drops.
Don’t sweat it man. Most of us know Dex was an underachiever. In fact, I was shocked at how well he played in that Michigan game because of how he had been playing leading up to it. You are absolutely right when you say he wasn’t fully committed to the craft of football, if he had been, results would have been visible. Before I graduated, we had some mutual friends and he always came off as a great dude, but he did not have the same level of commitment that I had seen others have before him. Just my observation. I was excited to see him drafted and wished he had consistently produced for App, but I appreciate what he did for us in the time he was on the mountain.
Now I will tell you this. I know he did not develop his craft on the field in routes but he did work hard on his speed and keeping his body in shape. I remember him doing well at the track championships. I actually expected a monster year from him after Michigan because you have to think that speed should torch the SoCon. It was tragic when he did not take the next step.

Did Dexter play Georgia State? I could have sworn this was a thread about Georgia State. Let's kick their ass.

It's funny how threads can turn. He came up because I mentioned how GSU could have lost to a team they should not after Tennessee just like we did after Michigan. I thought it was ironic that the man who won Michigan made some mistakes that cost us big against Wofford that year.

Georgia State is big but I want South Carolina now. We can win this weekend. I don't want to just give up on that game.

Of course he got on the front cover because those two touchdowns he scored against Michigan were huge. Jackson had elite speed and nobody could catch him that day. Jackson worked very hard in the preseason and I expected a huge year. When he did what he did at Michigan I'm thinking okay this guy is going to have 1200 yards and 15 total TDs type season. He worked hard in the weight room but he just never developed his routes. He thought he could live off his 4.3 speed forever and in the NFL that catches up to you.

He never developed as a route runner and developed a big ego. Gruden fell in love with the 4.3 speed at the combine and when you combine that with the Michigan game it made it easy for someone to fall in love. Problem is they never developed him.

He never lasted long anywhere and only had one full season on a 53-man roster. He kept getting cut after his rookie year. Proof: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dexter_Ja ... _receiver)

I shudder to think what you actually call "bashing" if this wasn't it.

I just presented facts.

Fact 1- He had 2 TDs against Michigan
Fact 2- He ran a 4.3 at the Combine
Fact 3- He went in 2nd round
Fact 4- He underperformed in terms of numbers and had some bad drops and fumbles as a SR
Fact 5- He only made a 53-man roster 1 year in the NFL and kept getting cut

Because of those facts, all of which I pointed out, I said he was HUGE in winning the Michigan game but

I wish some folks with the guts to write the truth about that season would do so. There were SOME GREAT things that happened because of Michigan but some bad things happened to. You could also argue our awful play against Wofford and the GSU loss really woke our team up. I remember after Wofford worrying if we would even make it past the first round that year but the two weeks after GSU I thought wow we got a wake up call and we can win the NC again.

Just because someone is one of us does not mean we can't tell the truth. Jackson was KEY in that Michigan game but he and some others played very bad at times after. It is unfortunate but he did not have a good NFL career. I really don't blame Jackson for the NFL flame out because Gruden took him way too high and he was not ready to be a starter on day 1 like the Bucs wanted him to be.

Not sure if you guys know but he has a training facility now that he used his NFL money on. Dexter did not spend all of his money and is doing pretty well now from what I'm told.

All I said was that Georgia State had a couple bad weeks after their biggest win in school history just like we did after ours. I mentioned Jackson and some others not playing well and then I got called out so I posted facts to back up what I said. Jackson underachieved that year.

I love my school as much as anyone else but not everyone who went to App was perfect or is brilliant. We all made mistakes.

I still have my SI copy as well and I was there at the game. I was at EVERY single game that year. I also shook my head when Dexter was drafted in the second round. It is okay because it is all facts that can't be changed.

Let's go beat the Gamecocks! Go Apps!
