How strictly is this rule enforced though?

Re: Afraid another 40 year tradition is gone
We don't need instruments/objects, we just need to be loud. KBS has had a long-standing tradition in both the FCS and G5 as being one of the more difficult places to play an away game at. We just need to embrace it more and just make it that the best way to compete at KBS is to have a quarterback that's hard of hearing to begin with.TheMoody1 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2019 12:12 pm"Artificial Noisemakers. If we sounded like what we did during the Wake Forest game last year the place would become a "bucket list" stop for every college sports fan.

Sounds like a good start.StorminASU wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2019 11:47 amI love this idea and it's so nice of you to volunteer your time like that. I have been trying to get our traditions solidified on Twitter, so here's a few I gathered:hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2019 11:01 amHey, I'm a graphic designer by trade....I'd be happy to design something if someone out there can produce the content.
1) Bugler's dream played before each App kickoff-fans point with each rhythmic beat holding fingers toward the targeted endzone while making noise, ascending in volume till the kick is off. Began for kicker Bjorn Nittmo and has been a tradition for many, many decades.
2) Hell's bells played each time the visiting offense has a 3rd down (and 4th down when applicable). Fans hold 3 fingers in the air and make as much noise as possible
3) Mountaineer walk-team, coaches, and band walk to the stadium while fans line up and cheer them on
4) Band marches in playing "Give Em Hell" and doing chants
5) Fans hold 4 fingers up when 3rd qtr ends. At one point, I believe the band also played the Star Wars song or some specific song every time.
6) App State chant before kick off and varying times during the game. Some kind of crowd noise was always happening during big plays or big reviews during our glorious Championship days. Chants of ASU after a turnover, after a big hit, etc. were also fantastic memories.
7) I'm a big fan of the "Who's house" chant, but I always mainly just tried to get that going against GSU because I can't stand them... along with the rest of Appnation.
8) Tennessee Waltz played after each home game
9) "Celebration" played after every home win
10) I actually like the idea of Mountain Music being played the same time each game. Perhaps after the 4th down band song? Always between 3rd and 4th qtr so everyone in stadium would know what's happening. (Same as kickoffs etc. Even people in concourse know what's happening when they hear these "triggers")
11) Announcing "That's another Mountaineer...First down" where the crowd joins in the end. This past week, the announcer was off on this terribly.
12) Announcement of "Welcome to the Rock" in some fashion (the Jerry Moore intro is straight $$$) immediately before the team enters and fireworks are set off to a crowd eruption of cheers.
13) (Edit) Wasn't the BOD playing "Going to Carolina" at some point and the crowd sang along?
14) Everyone, please list things I'm missing!!! I became an App fan in '05 when I started at App, so there's decades I'm missing, but want to keep having that "Home game" feel that I've honestly been missing in the past few games.
Honestly a lot of this is getting the band much, much more involved. So much of tradition includes a very active BOD. Can we start some sort of grass roots initiative to make sure Doug Gillin takes this seriously and continues longstanding traditions that have begun to fade in recent years? He said Bugler's would be played for every remaining game, he didn't say every AppSt kick. I think he probably still means to mix it up with this Hard in the Paint crap.
Our students, like every other student at every other schools with traditions, will enjoy the tradition; I'm tired of hearing how we're doing this so they'll show up and have fun. How on earth do students at Michigan, Alabama, Clemson, etc. have fun while celebrating those traditions if we're having to cater so much to the whimsical interests of students?
If anyone else has something (legitimately) to add to it, I'll be happy to draw up some brochure...even if it's some unofficial flyer you can hand out during tailgating or something, lol.

Something to hand out at tailgate would be nice, but I also wonder about a short, graphical summary of all this to share with Doug and the BOD director. Perhaps someone on here (probably many of you) have enough "pull" with some of the AppSt admin to let them know we're noticing the lack of traditions this year and it's very troubling. Some format to put in front of the higher ups to start memorializing in stone around AppSt athletics for football gameday.hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2019 12:51 pm

The canned music that played up until the snap kept the crowd out of getting into making noise. It was the quietest 29k crowd i've ever heard.

They need to have some guidelines on when and where to play canned music. You can't play it during the big plays, it takes away from the roar of the crowds. Play it during things like tv time outs, end of quarters and maybe during a turnover...it doesn't need to be on every freaking play of the game. Music during big plays, touchdowns, turnovers, etc. should be the piped bands. You blast Hi Hi Yikas after every touchdown with the emphasis of getting the crowd to scream GO, FIGHT, WIN APPS! at the top of their lungs. Make it the same way Clemson fans in Death Valley scream C-L-E-M-S-O.....N! without much effort.StorminASU wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2019 2:08 pmI can't agree with this more. Re: Afraid another 40 year tradition is gone
It’s called a tradition, there not trying to start something new every year and guess what, people know what to do, they like participating and it works. We’re making this way to hard. People keep saying it all has to be new and younger and I would be ok with that if it worked, but take a look around during the game. The old stuff gets the best response from the crowd. Not because it’s old, but because they know it. Mt. Music and Sweet Caroline get more of a response from the crowd than any of the newer songs. And yes the students sing along with both of those old songs. We had a slump during our transition and somebody thought we had to reinvent our game day. They were wrong, tradition work. Some say the music the band plays is old and outdated and people are board with it. Listen folks, we only do this 6 or 7 times a year, and most folks might be there 3 or 4 times a year. How do you get board with something you do 3 or 4 times a year. I’m not for the traditions because I’m old or there old, I’m for the traditions because the work!!!!StorminASU wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2019 3:11 pmI love it, how do we make it happen???hotrod2001 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2019 2:34 pm

Sorry I misunderstood Mjohn, I thought your post seemed argumentative, in favor of traditions working and being important, and I wasn't sure who it was argumentative against. Regardless, we very much agree.
Also, to everyone, not to beat a deadhorse, but how do we get the ball rolling on recovering our traditions???

Re: Afraid another 40 year tradition is gone
Our AD having to tweet that the APP STATE chant will "be back" is laughable. To be quite honest I'm scratching my head wondering how our fan base (much less the Gameday Operations personnel) allowed that part of the pre-game atmosphere/tradition to go unnoticed for any game. The poster that had the running list of 10 or so App St gameday traditions was spot on. When I go to Kidd Brewer that is exactly the list of traditions I want and expect to see game in and game out.
If you get a chance YouTube Texas A&M's (midnight yell or first yell). Basically the night before the first football game about 25k people show up in their stadium and student leaders lead an orientation on gameday chants. I'd think it could be a good opportunity during App's first week of orientation the student Yosef club and gameday operations team get together and have something like that in Kidd Brewer.
I know I'm preaching to the choir here with the die hards but when I read about DG having to tweet on the chant that took the cake.
