Giving the defense a pass is a weird take on what everyone witnessed yesterday.

I miss the hells bells to back in black intro. But again, both are played at other universities. Not really unique, but I love them.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 1:29 pmBy far the best.....get up off of that thing. Should be taught to the Freshmen. I don’t get it either. We scored 37 points, but let a team averaging 14 points a game score 45 points. Perhaps there were specific times offense failed, but I’d say it was on 80% of the time while defense did what they were supposed to do about 15% of the time.

Some schools are interested in tradition, we are not. We are into change. Not my choice but I didn't get a vote.

Neither defense was good yesterday. The difference is that our offense quit scoring.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 2:46 pmI don’t get it either. I get traditions of pointing at an end zone, the band playing the dream, “Welcome to the Rock”, back in black, cheer leaders riding into the stadium on an old truck( old tradition) Yosef on a motorcycle, A REAL MOUNTAIN MAN YOSEF. Probably has very little to do with the team’s performance. But it might. Does it give them something to play for? More than a ring more than $? I know our guys aren’t rolling in it. It feels as though we’re giving up our identity little by little. Loose focus of the little things and next thing you know you’ve lost to chickens four years in a row.Seattleapp wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 11:16 amBut haven’t we spoken endlessly on this board about what makes App App? This isn’t meant to be argumentative but as an alumni and fan for decades, it sucks a new guy comes in and suddenly the team isn’t doing what they were doing when I was a student. And we seem to flip flop weekly which unit is struggling.Bootsy wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 11:13 amMaybe I’m crazy, but I think Loggains has bigger fish to fry than to be worried about what songs the marching band plays.
Also, can everyone stop crying about the offense? They scored over 30 pts and turnovers weren’t an issue. That should’ve been enough to get the job done. The other side of the ball is the issue here.
I know our guys want to win, everyone does. But who do we want to win for? Traditions tie you to something, some where. It used to mean something to be a Mountaineer. I’m so very proud to be a Mountaineer. Our team and yes our coach must understand that being a Mountaineer at one time was special and needs to be special now.

You articulated that very well and encapsulated my sentiments. I like everyone here is proud to be a Mountaineer. Obviously winning is what we all want, but the pageantry and game day atmospheres and traditions we’ve all participated and counted on for years are also part of what makes Boone so special. I really hope we aren’t losing all that to just be like so many other also ran programs out there that no could tell you anything about.1ASU78 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 3:08 pmI get traditions of pointing at an end zone, the band playing the dream, “Welcome to the Rock”, back in black, cheer leaders riding into the stadium on an old truck( old tradition) Yosef on a motorcycle, A REAL MOUNTAIN MAN YOSEF. Drink was a quirky guy and winning cures a lot but they still felt like a traditional App team. I get the Jimmy and Joes argument. I really do . And DL may end up being a phenomenal coach here, but while we are transitioning, I don’t want to lose the other things that make App App.1ASU78 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 3:08 pmI get traditions of pointing at an end zone, the band playing the dream, “Welcome to the Rock”, back in black, cheer leaders riding into the stadium on an old truck( old tradition) Yosef on a motorcycle, A REAL MOUNTAIN MAN YOSEF. Absolutely. No one is scared to play us at home anymore. I mean why would they be.MAD Doctor wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 10:32 amUnless we get a defense with balls enough to hold a mediocre down-year Coastal team to under 40 points at homecoming, we’d better get used to being taunted and bullied on our own field. Re: Coastal - 3:30pm - Discussion
I have seen a few people complain about the play calling and I don't think you can blame Loggains for that. For example, inside the 5-yard line in the 4th we passed 3 straight times but that was because the OL was beat up and he did not have confidence we could pound it in. I really think you chalk that up to the dropped pass on that sequence. The defense has to be blamed mostly here. Injuries and not executing are hurting us right now but we still have to find a way.
Also, we did some stupid things on offense that I would guarantee our OL coach did not teach. There was a play where we had 3 OL blocking 2 defenders leaving a wide open gap for a pass rusher to hurry the QB and force an incompletion. In our last chance at the end the LT #72 just let the defender rip under him and get around to hit our QB and make him drop the ball. I could name a dozen more instances where Coastal just flat out whipped us and out smarted us.
I would encourage everyone to watch the coach's film and look at the end zone copy to see some of the mistakes our line made. We have to get a lot better up front.
Loggains said we need to learn how to win games and he is right. It is a shame because we should have won by 14 or so based on the first half.

Yup. We were once feared in Boone. I remember signs that would say In Boone you Play, Lose, and Go Home. That was very true. We can't let teams come up to Boone and plant their flags. We have to protect our house.fjblair wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 5:23 pmThere was one point during the FCS heyday where we were like 50-5 at home, or something ridiculous like that.boonetodd wrote: ↑Sun Oct 19, 2025 3:31 pmAbsolutely.
