I know nothing about recruits, but maybe we can actually get them to play us now. Grobe was on record as saying that his team would never play us again as long as he was the coach there. Of course Wellman has said the same and he's still there ... for now. Of course if they were smart (not too sure that they are) they would have already put a call into Columbia asking to speak to Elliot. As a Winston Salem resident, I can honestly say that the moves and hires by this group have been questionable ... at best.

I saw that Ed Orgeron has already applied, basically as soon as he stormed out of USC. that would be an interesting hire

I don't know about their current recruits but maybe we don't have to worry about them trying to poach ours this year, at least until they get their situation settled. All depends on who they bring in and if any of our kids were being recruited by that coach wherever he was.

I agree with Rick about Wellman as I've heard him say it several times but it might be easier to get by one person than two and Grobe was really the driving force behind not playing App.

Wake, thru the years, has left a lot of money on the table by not playing us. When we did play them we were almost always there biggest home draw of the year, and the game got alot of media attention. Not that it really mattered to Wake, they have more money then they could ever spend, but it was funny to me that they would leave money on the table to pacify their egos.

Couple of quick updates. We've been active on the recruiting trail and we've had several visits, one to another tall WR. We all know that Canty is liquid right now and with Eaton already offered it appears we are looking to add to the base.

WR Darrell Haralson (6' 4" 220) of Smyrna High School in Smyrna, TN received a visit by the staff. Highlights below.

Darrell Haralson #11 ‏@LarryThaGreat11
Appalachian State coach just came to visit me. #Blessed

Also 3 star WR Shaedon Meadors (6′ 2″ 180) of James Byrnes High School in Duncan, SC is taking an official this weekend. He currently holds reported offers from App, Marshall, ODU, Toledo, Towson, Tulane, UTC, and UNCC. He's been listed on the Main Page for a while.

Another note, it's being reported that high 3 star RB J’vonte Herrod (6′ 0″ 210) of North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, GA, who most sites have going to Minnesota, is saying he is in contact with App coaches often and is very interested. He's also on the Main Page. Another to watch.

And for those interested in linemen things are happening there also. One who has been tweeting about App and linking App videos is OG Bobby Limon (6' 2" 304) of Calhoun High School in Port Lavaca, TX. Several people are checking to see where this stands. I'll post as more info comes available on him and other linemen.

Interesting on Limon - any idea how we got in on a guy from Texas? Would love it if being in the Sun Belt could open up some recruiting inroads for us there.

I'm surprised we haven't lost our entire recruiting class because Vintage Yosef has made his return as a secondary logo. Any word on how many coaches are using it against us, Moose? ;)

Awesome reading as always my good man. :D

It's already happening. We're offering guys from way outside our past footprint and recruits from AL, TX, LA, MO, MS and AR, among others, are mentioning App or showing interest. I've been contacted by recruits or family members from several of the states listed and directed them to appstatesports and to the twitter accounts of the coaches to send them their info and highlights.

Awesome, great to hear.

Really think we need to do more in Florida, too, and it seems like that's starting to happen a bit as well.

:D I think it's taking a little time to set in and for them to get over the shock but I'm sure we're going to lose a bunch. I'm also hearing that Kinkos are being overrun by SunBelt coaches printing up pictures for them to carry with them. ;)

said It before, don't mind the ventage yosef on the sleeves, shoulder pads, but please don't put it on the helmets, the block A looks great, intimidating, and is really cool to look at, putting a Saturday morning cartoon character on the helmets would be embarrassing.

D. Haralson (WR) from Smyrna looks like he could be converted to TE.

I know you didn't start it but could we keep topics in their proper threads?

He has the ability to play either position. What I truly like about him and Eaton both is their downfield blocking. In our version of the spread it is vital that our WR's be able to engage and hold blocks downfield. Haralson ran one guy out the back of the endzone. I would love to have both of them. And truly would love the fact that our WR corps would have everything from 5' 10" burners to 6' 5" leapers with good hands and blocking. Now we just need to add some more beef to the middle to continue rebuilding our lines.

If we can pick up all of these 6'4+ WRs i'd like to see a 5 wide set using them all plus Burns and/or the 6'5 TE we have coming in next year

Hello- I am new to this site, but I just wanted to share a little bit about Rashad Dillard. He has two years of eligibility left. He had many schools recruiting him in high school, but he was a late qualifier and missed some opportunities. He went to SC State, but that was a "last resort" option. NCAA rules would have required him to sit out a year before making a lateral or upward transfer from SC State, so he took the JUCO route. I saw him play in the North-South All Star game with a broken thumb, and he dominated OLs who wound up at large Div. 1A schools.

Here is a little tidbit about him (and these stats were compiled before the post season)

(I am new to the forum and tried to post earlier, but I don't think it worked. Please forgive the redundancy and my lack of technical skills if this is a repeat :)

Dillard was a late qualifier his senior year in high school and missed out on some of larger schools that had been recruiting him. State was a last resort and not a good fit. NCAA rules would have required him to sit out a year if he made a lateral or upward transfer, so he went the JUCO route. I saw him play in the North South All Start game and dominated OLs that signed at large Div. 1A schools, and was playing in a rubber cast due to a broken right thumb.

We've got Burns for three more, Bailey for one, Walton coming in, plus three more Fr. on the roster. Looks like we'll get back to using the TE again like Coach did in the past. We started seeing it in the last few games. Future looks pretty bright there.

This weekend is the first recruit/family/faculty lunch and meet & greet. I'm working on it and I'll be posting some names as soon as possible. I'm pretty sure of 4 so far but am getting confirmation before I post them. I'm sure there will be several more. Let's just hope we don't have the possible ice storm Saturday night and Sunday. Might spoil the visit a bit and make it a little harder to get home for them.
