Not one player’s participates in the buglers dream pointing any longer, it took half a season to kill a tradition. DL may be fine on the field longterm, but the small changes to the program off the field are starting to add up from a fan perspective.
I put that on the administration as much as the coaching staff. Someone has to make it clear that certain things are part of our tradition no matter what. That message also has to go to the Game Ops folks who coordinate everything, and to the band to make sure they know to play it every time we kickoff.

It feels purposeful.

Unless we get a defense with balls enough to hold a mediocre down-year Coastal team to under 40 points at homecoming, we’d better get used to being taunted and bullied on our own field. Beyond sad.

I don't think Loggains is "purposefully" breaking down traditions. I seriously doubt he had any input at all in Bugler's Dream not being played. Fortunately, the message was delivered and I'm sure the players can get on board as well.

Honest question. What are we doing better this year than last year?
Winning games. This time last year App was 2-4 with a cancelled game against Liberty and a 66-20 loss to Clemson.

4-3 is about what I expected at the point in the season with a new coaching staff and half a new team.
I think that’s a fair assessment but this team doesn’t look well coached to me. We had no business losing that Game yesterday. We have a great stand against Oregon state on defense then get absolutely shredded against a very average coastal team at home. And the beat down Boise put on us this year rivaled what Clemson did last year. Clemson blitzed us early while Boise just demoralized us throughout the game. I say all this to say it’s understandable a new coach will have growing pains, but there will be a whole new team next year and we better hope this staff gets better at coaching players because it probably won’t be these players

Our defense and OL just don’t have the dudes. Next year is the true barometer.

Make a bowl this year though.

The Boise State loss and the Clemson loss are not even in the same stratosphere.

P4 Clemson completely dominated us. G5 peer program Boise held us to 170 TOTAL yards and easily could have scored 60 had they wanted to. My point wasn’t to say Clemson didn’t kick our asses roundly. My point was We were not competitive in either.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I think Loggains has bigger fish to fry than to be worried about what songs the marching band plays.

Also, can everyone stop crying about the offense? They scored over 30 pts and turnovers weren’t an issue. That should’ve been enough to get the job done. The other side of the ball is the issue here.

But haven’t we spoken endlessly on this board about what makes App App? He’s the head guy. That’s what comes with it. He’s gotta handle all of it. This isn’t meant to be argumentative but as an alumni and fan for decades, it sucks a new guy comes in and suddenly the team isn’t doing what they were doing when I was a student. And we seem to flip flop weekly which unit is struggling.

Offense has to score TDs though. Not settle for FGs. D was the major problem, but Kohl didn’t have the best protection and our run game is lacking at times. So the OL needs to be better. But that could be diminished by injuries as well.

The offense put up 21 points and 225 yards on the first three drives. It tallied two field goals over the remainder of the game (almost 3 quarters). 10 points came off a punt return and an interception.

Turnovers weren't an issue because an INT was overturned by a pre-pass penalty and our receiver and lineman fell on fumbles that were caused by a relentless pass rush against Kohl.

This game was similar to the JMU collapse, except JMU was a much better team. Coastal was shut out by ECU 38-0 and lost to ODU 47-7.

Tie it in to NIL and I am sure they come around.

I think most of us would have been ok with 4-3 at this point before the games were played. Figure win against Lindenwood and loss against Boise. Other 5 toss ups due to nobody knows what any team has due to so many new players for all teams. Now that we played those games its more about how we looked to get this record. Charlotte worst team in football. Lackluster win against Lindenwood. Beat ourselves against what I view as a worse team in S Miss. Not competitive at all against Boise. Could have easily lost at home to winless OSU that traveled across country. Solid win against GSU. Gave game away to another team I think we are better than in Coastal. Offense- Line is not very good at run blocking especially up the gut. Seem above average in pass blocking normal rush. We are very bad against blitzes so may need to keep rb in to block. Qb hold balls too long on blitzes and lacks spatial awareness of defense closing in. Receivers are getting better but still dropping too many balls. Defense is inconsistent weekly . Bad tackling and poor angles were the primary reason we lost yesterday. Special teams is ok except for Ko return decisions. Dont know if thats player decision or coaching decision. Before the season started more concerned with progress and how we looked last 6 games so I guess we will see.

4-3 is what many may have thought would be the record at this time, but a loss to a meh Coastal team with a third string QB wouldn't have been one of the games many would have thought would be in the loss column.

In our first seven games last season, we hadn't played a team with a losing record either. We had beaten ECU, better than anyone that we have beaten this year. Its not an argument about last year v. this year, which team is better. But, rather its putting a little context in the comparison.

I love the idea of keeping traditions, but in all seriousness, what real unique traditions do we have besides pointing to an end zone while Bugler's dream is being played? App State chant, holding up 4 fingers as we enter the 4th quarter (not unique), "Its an Appstate first down"(not unique). Not being a smart alleck and those on this board thst know me know I love this school and team, but if you go to other schools throughout the ACC, SEC, even other G5s, you see a lot of different real traditions. Maybe its a good time to blend some new in with the old. Forgot one tradition - drunk students in black and gold sliding down a beautifully manicured hill that gets destroyed by the end of the season.
