I know Moose will provide more and I do not think this has been posted. But Rivals is saying we got a commit from a DL named Rashad Dillard.

just saw this as well. adding depth everywhere on the defense for the new 3-4 scheme. i can see us moving Bronson to DE full-time now with Burns, Small, Milhouse (could go to DE as well) and now this kid

Watch all day...nothing....limp away for dinner and everything breaks. Everybody knows by now but
QB Penny Smith (6′ 2″ 180) of Fulton High School in Knoxville, TN and DL Rashad Dillard (6′ 2″ 265) of Coffeyville CC in Coffeyville, KS have offered verbal commits to App today. I will be moving them to the commit list in a few minutes and updating their pages. I'll have a bit more to say also.

Penny is an interesting recruit. He is highly ranked but we are his only FBS offer. Looks good on film, I'd like to see him throw more short and medium passes though.

Great news! Penny will be playing for the TN state 4A championship this coming Saturday at 4 PM Eastern against Giles County. His RB teammate has been sidelined recently with an injury. The championship game will be broadcast on TV in TN and available by internet video stream elsewhere. Link should be available later this week here:

could be a similar situation to AE. he only had an FBS offer from New Mexico i believe and that was to play something other than QB. he came to us b/c we were going to give him a shot at QB first.

reading the article it sounds like he would've gotten offers from MTSU and maybe UAB eventually

I agree with mtnjax. He has been drawing interest and will probably get more offers from the likes of MTSU, UAB, Temple, etc. He also had talked to Ga. St because his teammate, RB Daryl Rollins was pretty much the #1 RB on their board. What I've talked about in posts before is that Smith and Rollins wanted to play together and App was their highest common school. They've both been here and loved the visit. Now that Smith has committed I expect us to be in an even better position for Rollins. Hopefully we can round out the QB and RB positions with a commit from him.

I've said from the day we offered Smith that, on film, he reminded me of a little taller AE. He is a true dual threat QB and will increase the QB competition until we see how Lamb and Caruso are going to play. I've seen even more film than I linked on his page and he did throw more mid level passes in it but I've got to go back and find it now. I'll add it to his page as soon as I do.

As for Dillard, he's from Byrnes High School in Duncan, SC. He went the JUCO route because many said he would be able to play DL in college but he has proven many wrong with his strong play at Coffeyville CC. He should help out and increase the depth at DE in Coach Woody's D. He had offers from Arkansas St, South Alabama, and Troy with Ark St. pushing the hardest for him. Looks like we beat out three SunBelt teams for him.

As predicted earlier WR Montez McGuire (6′ 1″ 212) of Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, GA has committed to App today. He held an additional offer from South Alabama. This gives us a JUCO WR to help bring the younger WR's along. I am moving his page to the Committed section of the Main Page. Here's hoping he can talk his teammate ILB LaGrande Harley into joining him here.

I'd like to give a S/O to the coaching staff and their hard work this weekend and all season on the recruiting trail. I feel we will finish this out strong and bring in a great class. Great Job!!!!

Firemoose - I spoke with my brother who calls the games at Pinecrest in Southern Pines. Nobody is looking at their kicker. He is one of the best if not best kickers in North Carolina. He also plays DB and is the hardest hitter on the team. Someone needs to call him quick. If you can pass the word on to the powers to be.

Jackson Maples is his name

Jackson is my cousin and I just told him about AJ decommitting yesterday. He's still hoping for a scholarship, but Pinecrest has camped at App the last couple summers and he likes the football culture. He's a tough kid and great all-around athlete. His brother is in the cubs system and he was a dual signee at UNC before signing for big money with Chicago.

Jackson kicked a 61 yarder last season so he has the leg, just needs to work on consistency.

24-7 site says Dillard went to SC State out of HS. Did he redshirt and do you know what the story is of him leaving the Bulldogs for the jr college route? Think I saw where he has 3 years left.

Saint,

I believe it is because Fulton HS runs a predominant run offense. He is a solid passer but he really does not get show off his skills because of how good the RB's at Fulton are. He is as good of an athlete that we have had as a QB recruit since Armanti Edwards. Not saying that is who he will be but he is an athletic freak.

If Penny can convince Rollins-Davis to come to App as well then we are very lucky. Good kids and have a chip on their shoulders from being overlooked by a lot of schools for various reasons.
