Liked what I saw from Kohl too. Had some zip and touch on that out to Grier over the cover 2 sinking linebacker. Beautifully thrown ball. And for his size, he moves well. You can tell he has athleticism.
i am glad he got a few plays in and would not have minded if he was in for one more set of downs but not complaining either.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Hopefully Kohl gets a half next week

Lots of comments to the effect that “it was UNCC and they sucked so we don’t really know what we have.” That may or may not be true but I’m confident in saying that I saw enough to know we have a MUCH better team than we had last year, and for now, that’s enough for me.

Im not in love with Barnes so far
Our best WR of the night by far. Nice guy too. Went out of his way to take some photos after the game.
Agreed. Our fan base (to no surprise) is too quick to turn on people for their first mistake. This was his first game on a new team as well. Probably a little jittery to begin with. The fumble was bad but as Dowell said, that is a mistake that happens once. Barnes is our best all around receiver and we should enjoy the heck out of him while he is here.

And oh yea, just wait till Dozier comes back.
In all fairness, Seattle App owned his quick take. He's a Barnes believer now.
That’s great to hear! It’s always hard after a game to go through each comment. I missed that follow up so that is my fault.
Oh I had that comin.

Random comments:
Playing CLT looked like finding fool’s gold.
Our O-line has never given the QB that much time.
UNCC think the crowd was 50/50.
Our punt returner needs to watch some film.
Freshman kicker gonna be a good one.
QB s seem solid and wrs gonna be ok
Impressed with the vision of our RBs’
Our fans showed up!
Linebackers light year improved
I like Dukes…but enough already….
70degrees and sunny for next game.

Nice to close down on them on 3rd downs and get the defense off the field, didn’t see that much last season. Nice to win the turnover battle. Also, happy they showed up on national TV.

We looked like a modern day football team. We moved before the snap on defense (a bunch!!!) to put a little confusion on the opposing team. Last year we presented our defense and stood still as they adjusted their play call......DROVE ME CRAZY.

We had a designed quarterback run play....this is big. Quarterbacks have to run to win in college football. It was a shotgun spread 5 wide receivers, but it was a quarterback run all the way. Made my day.

The offense was fun to watch. Plays going all over the place.

We threw the ball to the running back out of the back field.

All of these point to a well coached team. Coaches are going to win games in this new college football era and I think we are on to something. GREAT JOB COACH LOGGAINS. Great Job AD Gillin. Great Job AppNation showing up and being loud.

p.s. we should not sign another game in Panthers stadium without a big payday. 90/ticket to a huge amount of App Fans. They need us.

I felt the exact same way with how we did not adjust. I never understood how anyone who truly knows football and how things work could make excuses for what was happening last year. I just wish some folks would have been more vocal about our issues last year because it should not have even been a split opinion on a change needing to be made. As time goes on I think those who did not think a change needed to happen and laughed at the Loggains hire might realize their opinions aged very poorly.

I give Loggains a lot of credit but beyond his coaching I got a feeling that he made some outstanding hires that are helping him a ton, which is a big part of being a head coach. I believe the Clyde Christensen, Kevin Higgins, and Bob Sanders hires in the roles we have them are paying off big time. DJ did very well in his debut and made me very proud of him as well!

Not loving what I’m seeing from Stroman
I think DL is going to bring the best out in him. As a pure receiver running actual routes, this was Stroman’s best game as an App. He was never asked to do as much as he did last night. Even though he gave up on a go ball, overall I’d say it was good.
I agree. He is so smooth and has tons of god given ability. There’s no reason he can’t be all conference, other than the fact that there’s only one ball and we got some dudes.

I noticed a few guys that looked better last night than what we saw in the past. Hopefully that will continue.

D did look much improved and with the FCS transfers up front I didn’t have high hopes. Now I hope it isn’t just a reflection of how bad UNCC’s offense is. And we shouldn’t really find out much next week from our opponent.

After seeing how the FCS types have performed in our program vs the SEC types, I’m more optimistic about Poindexter, Manuel, Flowers, Barnes, etc than I would be if they were SEC guys who didn’t see the field at previous schools (essentially our entire offensive line last season). Helms, Bucky, Makai Jackson and others came from FCS, were all conference and/or all American at that level, had a chip on their shoulder, and had the work ethic and drive needed for our program. It also helps to have coaches who know how to develop and mold those guys. It appears that we have that now as well.

The scheme was solid, clock management to end the half was sound, we didn’t give up an opening drive TD.

Too many penalties and a couple of mental lapses by players.

We passed the eye test.

I have always believed that offensive line guys especially coming out of high school are tough to really gauge as generally most are about the same size which lends to why so many guys from lower and mid level colleges play in the pros. We get the same 6’6” 300 lb guys that bigger schools get. Any of them can add 20 lbs of muscle and excel.

I'll clap along Saint, AAAAmen, AAAAAmen, AAA AAAmen, Amen Amen. We endured to many years of the opponents obligatory first series TD.

Felt Appsolutely amazing not being down 14-0 before the offense got a first down.

With the high school career he had, how did Barnes end up at Austin Peay?

Lindenwood counts toward bowl eligibility?

Really small. He was only about 5'8 150 or so as a senior in HS. I think Austin Peay was his only D1 offer.

ECU board has noticed, on a couple of threads. One poster said "when they hire or fire, they keep right on winning." They are pissed because they lost twice to Charlotte, and our new coach and players controlled the game from the beginning. They now know that App is the best program in NC
