As long as App wins games, I’m cool with him being whoever he wants to be.

Not sure what the legal/contract requirements are for the SBC but the Big 12 fined K-State and Iowa State $500k each for opting out. They did not fine Baylor and UCF because neither were technically qualified (only 5 wins and declined as replacement teams).bcoach wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 11:10 amWas there a contract? I don't mean to argue but it is my understanding a lot of schools lose money going to bowls. Now that we have to pay players it seems a good business decision to skip a bowl.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 12:06 amIt is kind of a requirement for SBC because we begged ESPN to create bowls for us.
"While the Conference acknowledges the difficult timing around coaching changes, the Big 12 is responsible for fulfilling its contractual obligations to its bowl partners," the league said in a statement Sunday.

All I know is if the coach is stoked to play another game after this year then I am too.
In fact win or lose it's several more practice sessions for those who will be back next year. So we got that at least.

Listened to the Nothing But App St podcast.. Larkins appears to be stoked to be playing. He will have to lay off Skyline Chili for a few more weeks.

Question of the Day: The coach stated after the Arky State loss that we would finish strong, should we take him for his word?

Re: Birmingham Bowl
I see you are in a bad mood today with a few posts. Why is it a bad thing for a fan to be excited about a football game and share an interview with the head coach, who also seem excited because his players sound excited?Seattleapp wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 12:21 amAre you Loggians publicist?
Too many people look for a negative in everything. If Dowell declined the bowl, many people would have been negative about that as well.

Agreed. Thankful to be able to watch App play over Christmas break. I am a glass half full type of person so I think going to a bowl and winning it is a step in the right direction in getting the program back on track after the last few years.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 10:00 amI see you are in a bad mood today with a few posts. I’ve been optimistic about App State for decades. I love App State and its football program. And it’s not about me not pulling for App. It’s the complete snow job DLO does in interviews like this. Until he proves otherwise, he’s just a used car salesman to me. I want the program to be successful and if he’s the guy I’ll be elated, but guys are jumping ship left and right and while it’s easy to say, goood riddance to them, it also says they don’t want to play for this staff. I also watched this team play, mostly poorly, all season under this guy and I watched his aloof bordering on dismissive attitude when questioned about it. So it rings hollow to me that he’s suddenly energized about this game. When a lot of the guys playing in it have already said they don’t want to play for him or App State next season. I traveled thousands of miles this year to get the chance to watch App play in person. And I’d love to talk about this over a drink with anyone on this board, but I’m Burnt out a bit with DLO

I don’t think that’s an indictment on the staff but rather the reality of the situation that the coaches want guys they recruited or developed on the roster. 90% of the players leaving were not going to factor into any equation here, so why should they stay?ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 10:00 amI see you are in a bad mood today with a few posts. The two primary departures who were recruited by the new staff (Porter and Manuel) will make some money.
The portal is also a two way street. Some players are told to enter due to talent or character issues.

It seems to me that Dowell didn't truly realize what he was stepping into at app. Just in terms of the brand and the fan base. Since the season ended he sounds much more optimistic about the program and has been more open about internal discussions. I believe he will be the guy to get this turned around, and he'll hit his stride in 2026. I could 100% be proven wrong though.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 10:00 amI see you are in a bad mood today with a few posts. LA Bowl was a pretty stupid startup anyway. It was doomed from the beginning. I do think more will follow though.ASUFan4863 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 11, 2025 10:33 amhttps://x.com/brett_mcmurphy/status/199 ... 80410?s=46
