In the state of N.C. we have 7 FBS and 7 FCS programs plus several in D11 which means spreading money for athletics across many fan bases. Times have changed with the transfer portal, NIL and the collectives making managing football rosters a 24/7 endeavor. Money makes a bigger difference now in college athletics. App can and will compete in the SBC but expecting domination year to year isn’t going to happen.
For those not renewing season tickets if Clark remains, are you a thick or thin Appalachian supporter or only when the team is winning championships? Will a 4-7 or a 5-6 record diminish or extinguish your continued support? If so, then goodbye because there are others to step up and buy your tickets. Alums and fans attend games to enjoy Boone, the mountains, visiting campus with tailgating and the game day atmosphere. Appalachian and Boone is a special place on an autumn Saturday. Enjoy it, life is short.

No one enjoys a 20 point loss, and not being competitive with peers.

We are just asking to be competitive at this point, being dominant ended in 2019, half a decade ago.

Is providing financial support of our Alma mater’s academic/athletic programs positively correlated with loyalty to the institution? Or vice versa?

It’s a personal decision one makes based on a variety of factors. Maybe it makes sense to view it through that lense, versus viewing it as some sort of moral position. Who determines if she’s a fan and he isn’t? Or this person is a bigger fan than those other people over there. Does that make sense?

I get that alums vote with our wallets. I suppose what I’m saying is it isn’t a binary equation. And people having a say in the ROI of their contributions shouldn’t be equated with loyalty/disloyalty.

It is hard to understand how they can possibly keep up this insane talk about our wealth of talent. It is not there and was not there at the beginning of the season. Playoff???? Really? These idiots get paid to write this drivel?
Should we have been better than we are? Yes, but playoff contention is simply silly. Continuing that nonsense opinion instead of admitting you were wrong is insane. I am with you in your assessment of our talent, it isn't nearly what we were told it was. The problem is that it was our staff that told us it was so good. Since at least the beginning of 2023 season, we have heard from the staff (including SC) that this was supposed to be the year. We were supposed to play for a conference championship this year. Our staff told us this. Surely, they should have known that we just don't have much talent. We have some playmakers on offense, and a couple strong defenders but looking up and down the roster, we just don't have the jimmy and joes. But again, our staff told us we did and this would be the year, and they didn't back off even after spring when it should have been obvious that our OL was questionable at best and our defense was a sieve. I agree we aren't that talented, and we were certainly sold a bill of goods that claimed we were. That is but another very disappointing aspects of this season.

All true about the coaches but this idiot is still writing that we have all this talent. Also lets be perfectly honest with ourselves. Where did any of us think this wealth of talent suddenly appeared over the summer? We were sold a bill of goods but we were way too willing to buy it.

In the age of AI/LLM, it can't be too difficult to establish standard criteria, then judge P4/G5 programs to see how well their coaching staffs have recruited. Would probably be helpful in looking for coaching candidates, too.
