Re: Where will we go bowling?
I try not to get too caught up in the bowl talk with so much of the season left to play but here is a layout from an StAte fan who seems to have good insight into the way it works in the Sun Belt. I found this on the Belt board:
1. If ULL gets to 7 wins, they are going to New Orleans, regardless what their conference record is. New Orleans Bowl has first pick, and Cajuns put 45-50K in the place yearly.
2. The Go Daddy Bowl has 2nd pick. They have said many times, that they look to take the champ first...and only consider other teams if the champ is not available. If App wins the league, you will likely go to Mobile. I guess its possible if there was a better matchup out there that the SBC could try and get Go Daddy to take someone else...but I don't see that happening.
3. Camelia Bowl picks 3rd. My thinking is they probably take stAte because Georgia Southern would prefer Orlando to Montgomery, but, its not inconcievable for the Eagles to go there.
4. Cure Bowl has last pick. They get whose left. You're not going to see the SBC jumping too far out of line to move the champ out of Go Daddy/New Orleans because our contract with Go Daddy expires in 2017, and we want them to renew. New Orleans tie to the league meanwhile, is likely directly tied to whether or not the Cajuns remain members.

Re: Where will we go bowling?
If this prediction is true, which sounds creditable expect less App State fans to attend. Can't see too many people traveling to Mobile two days before Christmas. Here's to hoping that isn't the case.hapapp wrote:I try not to get too caught up in the bowl talk with so much of the season left to play but here is a layout from an StAte fan who seems to have good insight into the way it works in the Sun Belt. Re: Where will we go bowling?
Since there are no direct tie-ins I would suspect the league champion could turn down any bowl since theyre guaranteed to be in one. This hasnt been an issue before now as ULL and Ark State combined to win 4 straight championships before GS won but was ineligible. In the years before those two won every championship there were only two bowls for the SB so there was no choice. We could make a decision that changes how SB schools get selected for a bowl.hapapp wrote:I try not to get too caught up in the bowl talk with so much of the season left to play but here is a layout from an StAte fan who seems to have good insight into the way it works in the Sun Belt. The Cure bowl would pit us against an AAC team, but I don't know what number AAC team.

It may come down to how the Go Daddy Bowl plays it. Of course, this predicated on us winning the Belt.

We enjoy Tybee quite well - non-commercial small beach. Everything is within an easy walk. Went back for the Pirate Fest a couple of years ago.appbio91 wrote:Off topic but do you like Tybee? We spent a week there last summer (booked it through Home Away) and loved it. It's a nice laid back place. No chain restaurants just a bunch of cool local owned places. We tattooed the stink flag in Sting Rays with a big App State. Disrespectful I know but it was a stink flag hanging right over my head.Gnomeneer wrote:When we travel, we try to find a cabin or neat house/condo to rent via http://www.homeaway.com.bertolinidives wrote:We are making refundable hotel reservations in all 4 cities.
Our trip to Montana we stayed in a cabin on the black snake river about 10 minutes outside of Missoula. Our trip to Louisiana Lafayette we stayed in a condo near the French Quarter in New Orleans (about a 90 minute drive away). Of course the stink, we stayed in Savannah (Tybee Island).
If you travel with friends, this is much less expensive than individual hotel rooms. When we split the cost, typically less than $100 per night per family - and much better than a hotel room, makes the trip more enjoyable.

That's a big if. They'll have to win five of their remaining six.hapapp wrote: 1. If ULL gets to 7 wins, they are going to New Orleans

The Go Daddy Bowl also has the 1st pick from the MAC. Hence, they like to pit the MAC champ vs the Sun Belt champ. Thus, the winner of the Ark St - App St game will be in the driver's seat for Mobile bowl game. I don't see us turning it down if offered. If App plays in the Go Daddy Bowl, I will be there

Re: Where will we go bowling?
We really need ULL to miss bowling this year. Our first showing for ticket sales will be critical and we'll fair much better on a Saturday in NO vs. the Wednesday before Christmas in Mobile.

We're also playing @ USA 18 days before the GoDaddy bowl. Are they really going to expect App (and presumably at least some fans) to make two trips to Mobile in less than three weeks?

Re: Where will we go bowling?
Let’s take the rest of the games one at a time. Beat Troy!! We can win out, Then take the best bowl option we have (I hope it is in Florida). We are ranked #33 (based on AP points) now and can climb even higher if the team stays focused.
Btw, what bowl is it that UNC Charlotte 49ers are likely to get this year?

We deserve a better opponent than ECU. Yes, ECU, App deserves a better opponent than you. Get used to that.
Ga So deserves better than ECU also. Get used to that.
CUSA and AAC look silly right now.

Re: Where will we go bowling?
I don't get it...I must've missed something. Why exactly do C-USA and the AAC look silly right now? For "passing" us over? If that is what you are implying then maybe we can agree on C-USA missing out but I can't get on-board with the AAC, as I'm pretty sure we were never on the AAC's radar, nor should we have been. The AAC is operating on another plane (as a whole) in the G5 at the moment, and that was/is a leap we aren't ready for, even if the product on the field (at least in Football) might be sufficient.ashugh wrote:We deserve a better opponent than ECU. Re: Where will we go bowling?
I have to agree with HkyMtneer on this one. AAC is very dominant amongst G5 right now. Not even sure we'd be leading C-USA. Marshall, WKU, and MTSU, and pretty legit teams in the east division. We are better than ODU and UNCC football wise, but we don't have the market the C-USA was looking to reach. We've done great our first bowl eligible year in the Sun Belt, and our defense looks dominant. Not sure we would have achieved the same stats and record had we been in any other conference. We just got to the Sun Belt, and for now, it's a good place that fits our budget and competition with regards to ALL sports.HkyMtneer wrote:I don't get it...I must've missed something. Re: Where will we go bowling?
Keep seeing ULL in this discussion. They are 2-4. If my math is correct they need to flip that script and go 4-2 to be eligible. Someone please lay out the 4 wins they will have no problem getting from here on out. If they go 5-7 or worse and can't go bowling how would things shake out? Assume App is the conference champ, GSU second and Ark St is third with no other SB teams getting to 6 wins.

Re: Where will we go bowling?
I think they stand a good chance with their 4 games that do not involve trips to Boone, or Mobile. ULM is hungry for wins, but ULL gets them at home. Should be interesting to watch it all unfold.bigdaddyg wrote:Keep seeing ULL in this discussion. They are 2-4. If my math is correct they need to flip that script and go 4-2 to be eligible. Re: Where will we go bowling?
I would imagine Ark St. would go to the NO Bowl in that situation as they would likely bring a better crowd, but we may very well end up there. If stAte does go there I would hope we find a way to go to the Cure Bowl. Right now the 3 AAC schools most likely to go to the Cure are Cincy, ECU, and USF.
The best scenario for the bowls and schools would be:
R&L New Orleans- Ark State
Cure- App
GoDaddy- USA
Camellia- GS
