Trying to figure out how they had 450 yds in their last game but only 13 points. Only 1 turnover.

Re: Looking Ahead- Lindenwood
Our win over Michigan is really not the be all go to comparison for not taking an opponent lightly. It seems to be used way too much. The perceived gap between that App and Michigan team was way more than the reality we all believed it to be. While nobody expected that result we knew we had a solid squad with a lot of speed. With a limited FCS roster depth was our biggest issue. If I recall we typically had starters playing special teams- see the Lynch block.
The gap between App and Lindenwood is probably closer to Michigan and Campbell.

Re: Looking Ahead- Lindenwood
Considering they missed 3 first quarter field goals, I guess they just marched down the field piling up yardage and shanking field goals. Bet the kicker received some dirty looks after the game.

Looking forward to Kohl and some of the 2’s/3’s getting meaningful reps this Saturday.

Re: Looking Ahead- Lindenwood
I do too. But I am okay with us playing some depth pieces/young guys to get them in-game reps (given we have a big lead)
As Kirby Smart said this week after obliterating Marshall....
"It's good to get the young guys reps...Would you rather preserve the shutout or get the young guys reps so they don't give up a TD late in the conference season".
Maybe we can do both. Preserve the shutout and get guys reps so they don't give up scores later in the year.

Why not just play your starters for a quarter then give your 2nd and 3rd stringers reps.

That would be refreshing…remember how we became conditioned to always seeing 1’s on the field, regardless of whether App was up by 20…or down by 20?NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 5:34 pmWhy not just play your starters for a quarter then give your 2nd and 3rd stringers reps.

Re: Looking Ahead- Lindenwood
The throw to Grier against Charlotte was a ball I’ve never seen an App QB make. That was an NFL like throw solely due to his height. He could basically throw it flat out because of height. That was interesting to see. Very Joe Flacco esque.

20 points in the 3rd isn’t when you pull your starting QB or offensive line. The three deep of the defensive line already plays all game.Bootsy wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 6:12 pmThat would be refreshing…remember how we became conditioned to always seeing 1’s on the field, regardless of whether App was up by 20…or down by 20?NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Tue Sep 02, 2025 5:34 pmWhy not just play your starters for a quarter then give your 2nd and 3rd stringers reps.
I could see putting in some running backs and receivers but with that lead you don’t pull starters until around midway through the 4th.
Get up 35 points in the 3rd and then you can talk about taking dudes out.

I doubt we hear anything from this staff about injuries and updates. The injury list for conference games is likely all we get.appstate24 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 3:19 amAny updates on some of the guys that sat out last week?

I would prefer to hear nothing vs being lied to. I’ll never forget how healthy we supposedly came out of Clemson only to never see Clark or Farrar suit up again and a serious re-aggrevation of an injury by Farmer.

Thanks, Coach. Being up by 20 in games wasn’t really the issue last year. It was more about being down by 20 with the game out of reach.ericsaid wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 9:17 am20 points in the 3rd isn’t when you pull your starting QB or offensive line. Re: Looking Ahead- Lindenwood
It is an interesting thought to ponder of where would K Rob be if not for still blatantly in a 3 score game with under 2 minutes left. It was justified in post game as still having a chance with an onside kick and score to tie it. Unfortunately, I am not aware of any scores that are worth 14 points.Bootsy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 10:49 amThanks, Coach. Being up by 20 in games wasn’t really the issue last year. Re: Looking Ahead- Lindenwood
You don’t want to pull the starters too early but you don’t want to leave them too long either to risk an unnecessary injury. That will be the balance and coaching test this week if the team plays up to its abilities. It is a good game to have before traveling for a tough conference matchup.
You also have to keep in mind that the coaches come from an NFL mindset. The NFL really doesn’t pull players until the 4th quarter. Do you air it out to get up early and then run with the backups? Do you run base stuff only? Do you try something new? What do you do with McCantos and Willis if the team is ahead? These are all questions to ponder. I don’t know if it will be a 60+ point blowout like some may expect but there are no excuses to not easily handle business.
This game is still important to me because it will show the mindset of the staff and especially the players. Do the players have that killer mindset? Can they execute at a high level on a consistent basis? That was the trademark of our great teams.
