Im with you guys on that. I just wonder who of that group and hate to lose them. All of those guys are talented.kornegaylw wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 10:35 amStroman: 6'4"AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 7:46 amI would add Stroman to that list of outside receivers.appstatealum wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 11:25 pmLike it. Coen Sutton and Kaeden on the outside. Two physical recievers.
C Sutton: 6'2"
K Robinson: 6'2"
Horn:6'2"
Pickney: 6'1"
D Brown: 6'1"
Wells: 5'11"
There are 6 other WRs on the roster. I would expect we see someone leave.

Re: Robinson Transfer
I will use the same position as above with the RBs. How can you look at that list and definitively say that they are all talented? I’m not trying to be negative. But only two of them have caught passes in a game thus far for us and one other has caught one or two at the FBS level. Outside of Stroman, I haven’t heard a single peep about the others. Maybe some of you have though.

Add that Sutton, Pickney & Brown all had serious injuries in the past year or so.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 11:10 amI will use the same position as above with the RBs. Re: Robinson Transfer
We have seen flashes from Horn and Wells while Stroman has a lot of buzz and was named the Scout Team Player of the Year. I remember hearing buzz from somewhere on Pinckney that before the injury he looked really good. The injuries are definitely cause for concern but based on their high school film they all have talent. I don't think Watts takes them if they don't have some talent. We will see if any of them don't pan out as they come off injury or finally get their chance though.AppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 11:10 amI will use the same position as above with the RBs. Re: Robinson Transfer
Of course they "had" talent and yes, they wouldn't have been recruited if they weren't talented - but it's a big jump from being a talented high school player to being a talented college player - I hope they all are, but I haven't seen anything close to what we are losing from those coming back -

Re: Robinson Transfer
You better get used to the portal as it will be a part of the overall process we will need to leverage whether you like it or not. Much like the free agent market matured in major league sports (remember at one point that really didn't exist, the teams owned the players). Gradually free agency became just another tool to add/deduct from your roster. The teams that use it effectively help their cause but it is not the only piece of the puzzle. I think college sports will evolve in a similar fashion so the coaching staffs will have to use it judiciously along with their other recruiting tools.
On the topic of kids making decisions at 17 and getting it right, some will, some will not, some graceful, some not so much so. I know a kid that was close to me and just entered college, not an athlete but just picking a quality school. He had a hard time and stressed making the decision from multiple institutions that "wanted" him, right up to the drop dead date. I gave him advice and he made the choice, probably a good one. Point is, I have learned to be a little more forgiving with these kids as I get older regardless of how they handle situation.

Re: Robinson Transfer
I wonder if we will see it go both ways, guy picks App over that one golden ring offer because he knows he will play immediately, uses us to get bigger and better, lights it up and then goes to a P5 via portalAppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 7:45 amI feel the same way about the portal. Seems like you see more and more guys who got several good offers coming out of high school- probably a majority of which were good G5 type but also that 1 P5 so they took the “gold ring” only to get slapped with reality pretty quickly that they were either not going to play much or not at all so now they want to take that G5 offer. We have seen already that just because a guy transfers into App from a big boy P5 that doesn’t signal becoming a starter (which is a huge plus for our program).
I really hope we don’t become enamored with this free agent system to the point where we run off younger guys who don’t want to keep waiting and burning up years of eligibility.
Clark has stated that we will build with his kids and fill in where necessary with portal guys that due diligence shows that they are a good fit.

Re: Robinson Transfer
I suppose that it could happen. The portal is a gamble for sure. How many get left in the portal? How many that are lucky enough to find homes, actually trade up?appbio91 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 15, 2021 6:00 pmI wonder if we will see it go both ways, guy picks App over that one golden ring offer because he knows he will play immediately, uses us to get bigger and better, lights it up and then goes to a P5 via portalAppSt94 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 7:45 amI feel the same way about the portal. Re: Robinson Transfer
Here’s the issue with moving. There are no guarantees you will get more looks or guaranteed PT. If you are balling out where you are scouts will know. Better chance to move to next level: if you are desperate like Spencer Rattler I get it

Re: Robinson Transfer
I see it that way too, we are putting guys in the NFL. Dumb question, can a program “show interest” in a kid before they are in the portal? That would seems still out of bounds.

Not saying this is the case, but when talent doesn't work hard, hard work beats talent.

Re: Robinson Transfer
It would put extra work on coaching staffs in recruiting, but I’d spend some time recruiting those “4 and 5 star” players within 200 miles or so to establish a relationship with them even knowing we’re not going to get them. In a year or so, with a relationship established, you could get them in the portal.

Re: Robinson Transfer
I hear what your saying but what if it cost you a shot at a legitimate target? Far more important to build relationships with coaches at the high school.Cro-Magnon App wrote: ↑Fri Dec 17, 2021 1:00 pmIt would put extra work on coaching staffs in recruiting, but I’d spend some time recruiting those “4 and 5 star” players within 200 miles or so to establish a relationship with them even knowing we’re not going to get them.
