Re: ECU or Miami?
The question was which game people found more interesting / exciting, not which game had more national impact. As true potential "rivalry" games, both WF and ECU bring a lot to the table. Miami was certainly exciting during the build up, but my thoughts on that one are now tainted by the disappointment of the game itself. Had we pulled off the win, the Miami game would have been historic. The potential was higher than it is for either of the others. Since that didn't happen, it goes in the "opportunities missed" bucket. It was a nice mile-stone (first P5 in Boone) but the ECU (and Wake) games still have tremendous potential.
For excitement, all three are huge and I think the answer to which one is more exciting is the NEXT one. Which one has more impact depends on what happens.
It's great to be a MOUNTAINEER!!!

National relevance is my #1 goal for our program, so those two go hand in hand for me.Yosef84 wrote:The question was which game people found more interesting / exciting, not which game had more national impact. Re: ECU or Miami?
I think Miami wins for most excitement purely because they were first, though I'm not sure how much of it had to do with the opponent being Miami as opposed to the opponent just being a big name program. I think the excitement would have been similar for somebody like Pitt or Georgia Tech.

Honest question. What is the importance of Miami on a national level. Who does it matter to. What does it do for us. Does anyone besides us know they came to Boone? If they did at the time does anyone remember it. These are honest questions as I just don't see it.

It certainly got national attention at the time the game was played, yes. Now, it's fair to say we squandered the opportunity by getting blown out, and you're probably right that as a result, no one remembers it nationally.bcoach wrote:Honest question. But games like that are also important for growing the program, because you get a ton of people to come to a game who don't normally. Some for the first time ever, others maybe for the first time in years. It's a chance to win over new fans by showing them a great game day experience. And I bet you the boatload of recruits we hosted that day remember what that stadium felt like.
As excited as I was and am to get ECU and Wake on the schedule, those are basically no-brainers. All of us probably expected to schedule those teams once we moved up. Not many of us expected to be hosting Miami this soon.

Miami for me too and not close because of national recognition.
I will be stoked for ECU And Wake when the time comes but like others said, I expected them and they are regional.
Remember we have a return date with the U in Miami and maybe we can return the favor by winning that one. We will want a payback for the 2016 fiasco.

Re: ECU or Miami?
Eh, no need for the Charlie Cobb comparison. I enjoy bragging rights in college football more than most anything else about the sport, especially considering we're G5 and that's about all we play for anyways. I know 0 Miami fans while I know probably 75-100 Pirate alums/fans who have rarely said a nice word about App, and when they do the caveat is that we don't play anybody bc we're in the Sunbelt. I've been waiting on this game since the move up. Miami game was a great time and set the precedent going forward, I don't buy it was some huge move in terms of national relevance for us as Ark St has a home game with UM in 2017, but it did set the precedent of getting P5 schools to Boone. Im very glad we got a home game with UM and all but for the reason mentioned I'm personally looking forward to the ECU games a bit more.ericsaid wrote:Charlie Cobb or Doug Gillin?
